LYONSY - Lady Pool

Dutch-born, Berlin-based DJ Laure Croft lives by the mantra ‘keep it sexy’. Her intention when she takes to the decks is to initiate the liberation that comes from the most powerful dancefloor experiences, when clothes come off and the energy reaches fever pitch. Her sound is a constant rush of high-intensity techno spanning the mid 90s to the mid 00s, mixed with the tactile, precarious thrill of vinyl. Continually digging for the tracks which fit her particular creative vision, she holds true to techno’s inherent futurism by creating something new and ever-evolving from the music she plays. Pulling together the pieces of the puzzle from decades of techno culture carved into a near-infinite pool of uptempo, forward-facing machine music.

Hey everyone,

I would like to share with you my project for this year. I’m pitching a subscription program that will take you on a year long journey into my real-time music production. The project will be explored together with my audience as we travel along through the vast and complex outer space of music....
Having the experience of being a label owner and organizing parties, collaborating and being with the crowd, I have always tried to incorporate an awareness of the music industry‘s mechanisms. After more than a decade of working with vinyl (producing, selling, collecting, gifting, swapping, and losing), I want to deviate from the sluggish times of the last years and rethink my approach to music distribution. To achieve this I will use the Bandcamp Subscription Service..... 
After signing up, subscribers will receive a track every Thursday throughout the whole year of 2023. You’ll receive 52 tracks for 52€. At the end of each month, non-subscribers will be able to buy the monthly digital EPs for 2€ per track. For those who fear commitment of any kind, single tracks can be purchased for 3€....
Dividing the year into 4 seasons, every quarter‘s content will be presented in a continuous mix made by affiliated artists and friends. The fast rhythm of the output is an integral part oft the framework because it encourages more playfulness, spontaneity, and surprise. I’ll experiment with making versions of tracks by expanding the duration, multiplying, and reconfiguring the order of my material. Appropriated, sampled, and recorded fragments will reappear to disturb the semantics of a conventional album, releasing different meanings after each slightly shifted repetition. Thus interrelations between the output can stretch over a year‘s time, poking at  sonic memory and rigid listening  behavior. The habitual 30 minutes attention span a vinyl EP requires is given way to explore limitless digital possibilities. Even though I see great value in the compact physical object of a record, such benefits as the distribution process, pricing, and overall autonomy overrule that fetish in this new strategy. I will continue to produce vinyl, but for this project, I´d like to subvert the industry‘s superstructures (which tend to exploit the artists´ share) and strive for my own sales autonomy even more. You will be able to communicate with me on a surface level but also unconsciously via your digital trace. Streaming and purchase behavior, likes, and critiques will be met quicker and more intuitively.....

Subscription Mix - WINTER by Marius Bø

DIVERSION is a Cork-based duo, who have solidified themselves in their local techno scene within the last year. In a short span of time, they have amassed a string of solid self-releases that have been highly supported by artists at home and abroad and most recently by Penglord performing at Hör Berlin. The duo has played numerous shows across The Rebel County and has earned themselves residency with Cicada Selects, which is a primarily Cork-based party run by Jamie Lynch, who is one of Cork's leading promoters at the moment.

DIVERSION has recorded a range of mixes for platforms such as Project Radio, Reboot, and Treecast. Describing their sound as a mixture of groove-infused techno with a touch of old-school hardcore for good measure. Deriving clear influence from some of Ireland's finest electronic music artists Tommy Holohan and Kettama, the duo are constantly refining their sound through means of their track selection and productions that you can hear in the 197th edition of the Local Selection Mix Series. 

This mix showcases an array of fast-paced techno tracks that are best described as colourful, playful, and funky selections, fused with a high degree of mixing technique that makes for a tremendously fun listen.

Today we welcome Ireland based DJ, producer and label owner Jon10 to the series. Since embarking on his quest in music production in late 2021, he has released a slew of blistering productions on labels such as Deadline records, Sonic Intel, Aktivv Berlin, and most recently releasing his debut EP “Groove Assassination” on his own imprint “Izotope”.

In early 2020 he founded Izotope which is a Limerick, Ireland based collective trying to burst onto the Irish electronic music scene. Jon10 has established himself as an interdisciplinary artist who is not afraid to branch out beyond the trope of promoting and running a label. This ambition has landed him the title as being one of the driving forces behind the post pandemic revival of rave culture in the south west of Ireland.

Jon10’s Groove infused style mixing and producing has caught the attention of many 
which has landed him slots at renowned clubs and festivals across Ireland and Berlin, sharing the stage with the best artists in the industry. Whilst all of this being achieved in the infancy of his career we’ve still yet to capture, the full potential or the Limerick native.

We premiere new music from emerging Dublin producer RUANAIDH as the young artist releases his debut track, ‘Shamisen Break’. The youngster blends leftfield percussive grooves with hard-edged techno grit to create an introspective club track that defies genre.

RUANAIDH, the moniker of Dublin-based DJ Richie Rooney, is an exciting and innovative force in Dublin’s electronic music scene. Favouring a blend of bouncy rave and techno tunes, but also not shy to veer into ghetto, electro, jungle and bass, Ruanaidh tends to blur the lines of genre, and never stick to one sound. 

His versatility has earned him slots in many of Dublin’s finest venues, including Index, Wigwam, The Sound House, Bow Lane Social Club and many more. Additionally, he has held down support slots for big names like LaLa, Prozak, and Prince Prada. Making moves in the post-lockdown Dublin scene the past 2 years, and constantly exploring music for far longer, he is an exciting DJ to watch and will only rise further.

The young artist now presents his debut release, ‘Shamisen Break’, a kaleidoscopic and nonconformist entry into the world of club music production. The track is an exploration of sound that seamlessly blends the traditional with the contemporary. The track is built around an enchanting melody of the shamisen, a traditional Japanese folk instrument known for its haunting and evocative tones. A distorted kick and low vibrating synth serve as the backbone of the track, while a tasteful old-school chorus of breaks scintillates throughout the track, weaving their way through the shamisen’s melody. The juxtaposition of an ancient instrument with contemporary percussion and production techniques provides a fascinating view into Ruanaidh’s tastes and ideas. It’s clear, there is much more to come from the young up-and-comer.
