bubble boy, an insignificant cell on a strangers body. a nobody, with no purpose, but i’ll still find a way to draw parallels to who looks better with their shirt off. now it feels like the world is spinning too quickly and sometimes i just can’t fucking believe that i’m here right now. please, i’m begging you to compare me to someone else. spit in my mouth,  then on my chest. let me taste you so when you’re gone i’ll know exactly what i’m missing. it’s 1am and i want to be apart of you in ways you’ll only bring up when you talk shit on me years later. until then i’ll kiss your stretch marks, and you’ll run your fingers across old scars, and together we’ll repeat 'i love you' until the mirror breaks.

the root of my problems doesn’t have a root at all. it isn’t a string or trail of bread crumbs i can follow back to a single moment. it isn’t a suppressed thought, it’s a voice that convinces me my thoughts are worth suppressing in the first place.

It's hard to pinpoint Parisian producer, Twenty9's sound, but the amalgamation of all his influences definitely amounts to something extremely nostalgic. The feeling is undeniable thanks to breezy rhodes and warm 80s analogue sounds and there's also no doubt that his work would slot right into the catalogue of artists pioneering that unmistakeable 'Toronto' sound. 

'So Far Ahead' is the first single off TapeTrack Vol. 3, which we see as a dedication to modern R&B. It's a reminder to where the R&B scene is moving thanks to modern classics like Frank's "Channel Orange" and Drake's last record. Coupled with sub knocking bass, Twenty9's given us something distinctly him with this release.

'Medicine' was written especially for the Zane Lowe curated rescore of the 'Drive' movie soundtrack. 
 
After we stole him we made our way from Los Angeles through the Californian desert to Las Vegas. Drowning my sorrows and (narrowly) avoiding conflict from many directions..... I sat down with Jim (Zane Lowe's Producer) and he began to explain to me how he was in the process of re-scoring a movie and did we want to be involved. The film in question was the modern classic ‘Drive’. So of course my answer was ‘yes’. We wrote Medicine for our chosen scenes.   Medicine, it’s title and sentiment, goes all the way back to the original The 1975 project that was based in my bedroom. It’s a new piece of music informed by the genesis of our band and our love for ‘Drive’ as a film. Having the opportunity to re-score a movie of which we were already so familiar provided us with a sense of knowing and allowed us to be slightly more introspective than we maybe would have been approaching something unknown. The movie itself plays with the duality of resignment and hope - and this is most obvious and stirring in the scenes we chose to score. The song is a testament to that same idea and has in turn become one of our most personal and best loved pieces of music to date. I won’t delve into what the song is about lyrically because frankly I want to put those ideas to bed; but being provided with the context in which Medicine came to be, it allowed the song to become a mausoleum for those ideas, captured, diverted and frozen forever. Which is pretty cool x

self confident in that I’ll never let myself forfeit 
every word I write I’m certain I’m just painting a self portrait
and to all the self destructive people who feel they’ll never be themselves again
just know I understand that self inflicted pain is self defense
so don’t sell yourself short or label yourself as stupid
because when you’ve hit rock bottom every movement is a self improvement
