Kercha - Hippo On Sidewalk

Due to popular demand, we've pulled this one out of the archives... 

Back in 2010, Gilles Peterson recorded a special Brownswood Basement show focusing on the evolution of drum & bass through the 90s and into the 00s. It was by no means a comprehensive history of the genre, but it did represent an excellent snapshot of the tunes that struck a chord with Gilles back then. 100% vinyl (and acetates), Gilles spent the best part of a day rummaging through hundreds of records and picked out around 40 of his favourite tracks from the likes of Alex Reece, Peshay, Goldie, Drumagick, Roni Size and Photek… then @alex-patchwork got deep in the mix. Here then, is the first hour-long mix that made up that show - no links, jingles or drops - just the music. We hope you enjoy it.

This set is made up of lots of little bit and pieces cut from 9 hours of my old mix tapes from 1995 to 1999. These are tapes I used to make every 3-4 weeks to listen to the new tracks I'd brought or been sent (I used to review tracks for magazine, pirate radio). I cut out all the dark, heavy & deep mixes from those old tapes and mixed the pieces back together with Traktor to make a new set. Some tracks are so heavy I had to use them twice, like echo's running through the set.
This set is uploaded as a single 4.5 hr set (which is how I conceived it), and in 3 parts - what were the beginning, middle and end - but each part kept getting longer and longer. 

As always all respect to the artists, engineers and producers - if I could remember the names I'd list them. I'll update the track listing as I find them. 

I think of this style of dnb as anti-virus software for the soul, it flushes out all the negativity, mis-info and psychological warfare that is constantly being heaped upon us. Flight darkness with darkness...
