Defect is a drum & bass DJ and producer with over a decade behind the decks and 7 years of production experience. Known for delivering high-energy sets, Defect has played at festivals and shows across the country and internationally, earning a reputation for pushing boundaries in the scene.

Beyond performing, Defect is the driving force behind DNB Collective, a well-established event brand, and DNBC Records, a label dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge talent in drum & bass.

With a passion for the genre and a commitment to the culture, Defect continues to make waves both on and off the stage.

Sam Baker (28) originally from Hull, entered the House scene in early 2004 & has developed into a very well known personality.
 He began working the turntables at the tender age of 16 and instantly gained an addiction for vocal funky house before becoming an electro house dj in 2009.

2004-2008

Sam’s passion for big vocals & driving baselines helped him stand out from the almost generic crowd, awarding him with a five day residency throughout Bridlington’s high season. This three season residency gained Sam various bookings on the coast over coming years.

Starting out at a compact venue holding roughly 150 people playing old skool funky house and ‘Hed Kandi’ classics this soon became a regular Thursday night session.

Throughout the four year journey, Sam’s confidence grew massively and he began to take on more sets ranging from pre-bars and small cocktail bars to late night venues.

In the spring of 2005, Sam teamed up with a local dj and was made a five day resident of a holiday leisure complex. During the three seasons he spent playing for the 800 capacity venue Sam was educated in many other genres of house and dance music, one of which was electro house.

2009-2011

After deciding to move to West Yorkshire, Sam Baker began to rebuild his name under a fresh alias ‘Sam Buca’.

When the opportunity arose he quickly grabbed himself the chance to pursue his career in the West Yorkshire club scene.

Spotted playing at a local gig by a promoter from Leeds, Sam endured his first set playing nothing but electro house, from this he created his first ever brand which was introduced into two different towns within West Yorkshire.

At the back end of 2009 Sam landed a three day residency in Wakefield City Centre at a fresh new bar that made a huge statement on the city’s already hectic night life. He became responsible for the venues three main weekly events; with planning and research into local talent he built a team of residents able to build the profile of the bar and themselves rapidly.

From the success of such events, Sam was approached by many brands and offered various gigs which he used to build his dj portfolio.

In May of 2011 Sam Baker co-founded Wakefield’s official premier outdoor party event ‘COURTYARD SESSIONS’.

‘Courtyard Sessions’ is an outdoor Ibiza style house music event that runs during the day each and every Saturday 3pm till late (March-October).

2012-Present

The summer brand ‘Courtyard Sessions’ is now into its third successful season at an upgraded outdoor courtyard at Wakefield’s infamous Latino Quarter.

Season three is set to be the biggest yet with respectable artists on the bill throughout the year, featuring talent from many global record labels.

 

With the electro scene dying out the alias ‘Sam Buca’ was dropped in 2011, leaving Sam Baker’s passion for real house music to take effect.

Over the years his style changed with the times and seemed to come full circle back to vocal house.

Sam’s current style is deep bouncy house teamed with spine tingling vocals and UK bass.

Throughout the years Sam has had the pleasure in working with many talented studio producers, engineers and artists’ creating many outstanding remixes which still remain recognisable in the industry today.
