Welcome back once again! Thanks for joining us for Episode #7 of The Depth Perception Sessions.

For this episode we welcome a true pillar of the contemporary electronic music scene, from the Netherlands: 

Paul Hazendonk.

Bio : 

Paul Hazendonk and his Manual Music record company are an essential part of the underground electronic music landscape. The kind and gentle Dutchman has been active as a label boss, deejay, and producer for nearly two decades, during which he performed in excess of 35 countries and has worked for labels such as Diynamic, Sudbeat, Einmusika, Kittball, Hope Recordings and Sony / Epic amongst countless others.

His independent record company Manual Music serves as a home for various record labels, several of which are headed by Paul himself. Deeply rooted in the electronic music scene, his company also takes care of the digital distribution-, label management, promo and publishing needs for numerous labels and artists.

In the earlier stages of his career, Paul honed and perfected his craft as a deejay through residencies at various clubs, including the legendary Las Palmas in Rotterdam. He got asked to play his first international gigs aged only 19 years old, and hasn’t looked back ever since, considering the fact that he’s performed anywhere from North America to Asia and from Australia to througout the whole European continent.

Although over the years he’s perfected his own distinctive sound, it’s not easy to pin Paul down and stick any one particular genre tag on him. He's an allround music aficionado first and foremost, who embraces the idea of a classic deejay, having total musical and artistical freedom. His sound is characterized by warm basslines and melodies, but always with an infectious drive, often blending elements of both house and techno music, also not shying away from the occasional sidestep into breakbeats or electronica.

Paul Hazendonk plays his DJ sets in the same way he’s running his record company; based on gut feel rather than being boxed in by fixed genres and trends. One thing is for certain: the vibe this true musical connaisseur radiates through his productions and deejay sets is always overflowing with true passion and love!

The staccato wanders up and down the scale in organized disarray thrown into relief periodically by a beautiful warm sawtooth. ‘Existentia’ provides a wonderful example of the beauty of organized chaos and is certainly a well-crafted debut for the label."

"Arude is a young and aspiring producer and DJ from Ukraine. With every new track Arude is trying to develop his skills and present something new and extraordinary for the audience.
Anton Rudenko invaded Arude in 2013 (when he was 18 years old) and straight moved on making his own sound. After a lot of hours in the studio, Arude releases his first release on Univack Records, with a lot of good feedback from artists like Soul Button, Blancah, Aaryon and Animal Picnic. Then he makes a powerful remix of "Zama Zamas" by Martin Kremser and debut on KDB Records. In 2017 Arude debut on Steyoyoke Black with melodic and ethereal EP called "Existentia" and after it Anton releases a lot of tracks on iconic Soul Button's label "Steyoyoke".
Arude still only stands at the beginning of his career but he aspires to provide his own sound and seeks to be into the focus of the top league."

U.K. based producer Dan Watts has pedigree, he's been involved in dance music since the late 1980's. A passion for analog synthesis and early Electro, gave way to New Beat, Acid House and Techno. The desire to share 'the new sound' led to scores of illegal rave parties and numerous DJ residencies. A string of white label releases through the the 90's under various guises eventually led to the Fractal Architect production moniker. Under this name Dan brings to the table his own unique and genre blurring brand of deep, soulful, melodic electronic dance music. With signings to many high profile labels including Steyoyoke, Inner Symphony, Manual Music, KDB and Cinematique, and his monthly radio show Depth Perception on DNA FM, Fractal Architect’s star is rising.

With great pleasure we would like to introduce you to our next podcast episode, recorded by Lauren Mia, a pianist, composer, music producer and DJ from Los Angeles.

In our Interview we asked Lauren Mia if there's anything she misses from her childhood? She told us something very important about perspective on life as a child.
"Something I deeply miss from my childhood is my perspective on life. My perspective on life was so pure, unharmed by the dangers and negativity energy that does naturally inhibit our world. In our world and our reality, there is the need for balance. The ying and the yang. There is no light without darkness. However, as a child, I was emotionally protected from he darkness of the world. My parents did an incredible job providing a very beautiful, worry-less life surrounded by love, laughter, art, and friends. I felt very protected as a child. Now we are all, instinctually, need to protect ourselves and also help protect others, whether it is the basic human rights of others, or protection of animals, or even the protection of environment and planet. That is our duty but also a great responsibility that does take a toll on all of us emotionally. I am grateful for this responsibility, although I do miss what it was like to just be free, and not worry. To have the belief that we lived in a perfect world filled with toys, love, laughter and art."

The next question was about the best birthday gift she ever received. For sure it was the piano that influenced her whole life.
"The best birthday gift I ever received was my piano. My parents gifted me a piano at the age of 4 and allowed me to start studying with my instructor Stella throughout the course of child hood and teenage years. I am so deeply grateful and humbled for that, as it help me get in touch with my true passion and love for music and sound at a very young age."
