Written and recorded at Historic St. Mary’s on Prince Edward Island with a grand piano, an antique guitar and a decade of trust.
In the early summer of 2023 after having both recently made decidedly polished solo studio albums, Julie Arsenault and Aaron Comeau both had a longing to collaborate on a more pared back project, similar to the way Julie’s debut album The Creature That I Call Myself was created. It would be an opportunity for Aaron to employ his improvisational skills on the piano, for Julie to challenge her solitary songwriting process, and to experiment with blending their voices in ways they had yet to attempt.

The plan was to write and record an EP in 4 days using the natural acoustics and reverb of Historic St. Mary’s Church (home to the Under the Spire music festival on Prince Edward Island, Canada) and little else. Using this environment as their inspiration, the pair wrote and recorded songs on the spot, from the heart, with zero judgment from their inner critics and without any time in between to second guess themselves, or give in to doubts. Placing high value on spontaneity and intuition, the duo was resolute that this recording be live and unedited, with no comping, filters or effects. Prioritizing the act of creation over the outcome of a finished product, they view the little “flaws” as proof of their humanity.

How I Found You is an honest portrait of two people, trying their best in the moment and learning and growing as a result.
