That night, the city stood like an unfinished mechanism: the clock hands moved, but time did not. Two sound-network technicians, known at the console as System Wide, noticed a strange kind of glitch: signals arrived before they were sent. As if the echo were outrunning the voice.

To measure the shift, they sent a low impulse through the cables—dry as the snap of a breaker. The music didn’t “kick in,” but the sidewalks felt for a common beat: in the metro, footsteps began to snake; the traffic lights blinked like a metronome; and a rollerblader along the embankment carved arcs between passersby. A couple at a kiosk, mid-sentence, turned at the same moment—a precise pivot at the corner, as if a choreographer had pinned a cue in the air. No flash mob—just the city starting to dance by itself: couriers with short glides at crosswalks, children with fine footwork by the shop windows, the elderly tracing clear geometry with their hands. At times the silence tightened like an anti-drop, and the whole intersection froze on the “and-one,” only to flare a moment later into a new figure.

By dawn, people’s knees hummed pleasantly, and it was easier to meet each other’s eyes. System Wide wrote in the log: “Shift accepted. The world didn’t speed up—it found a count.” That’s how System Wide’s release Paradox Shift on Paperfunk Recordings was born: not an escape from the system, but a live reflash of it. Every time the city grows tight again, they send a short impulse—and reality takes half a step to the side, just enough for there to be room to dance again.

The self-titled “Cyberghetto” inflicts more than just a handful of artists painting by numbers, but a well-rounded group of individuals asserting their experimental crafts.

Hyperboloid are synonymous with picking out the cream of the Grime/Cyber Club/Bass/Juke & Beat scene and this release see’s some new faces that we’re thrilled to discover. Don’t be fooled the usual suspects are still there dropping what they do best.

From star to finish they create a yo-yo effect with their track placement, giving each track a chance to hit you hard with it’s mood and deliberate attempt to make you feel something.

Overall the album shows that Hyperboloid are still one of the most vibrant and forth thinking underground camps on the scene and that you should be expecting a fruitful onslaught of new beats to come in 2016.

‘JAC’ is a collaborative release by Shanghai based Gooooose and Berlin based DJ Scotch Egg. After meeting for the first time at Nyege Nyege Festival, Uganda, in 2019, SVBKVLT brought Scotch Egg to Shanghai for a one week studio session with Gooooose in Jan 2020, just a couple of weeks before Covid-19 took hold. The result is JAC, a 6 track release, including a track with vocal samples from Swordman Kitala, recorded by Scotch Egg during his residency at the Nyege villa, plus remixes from Slikback and Seven Orbits & TSVI and artwork by Andy Rolfes. Very dengrouse!!

After appearances in the labels Polish Juke and assemblyline, hæra and distope are back with a collaborative LP on BAS titled light pollution. Combining distope’s academic sound design background with hæra’s abstract vision of footwork, light pollution is an unusual album of juke grooves pulsating under ambient textures and dubbed out samples. While strongly rooted in footwork music, the record mostly avoids the genre’s usual dancefloor associations and instead offers a minimalist, meditative experience more suited for an introspective listening session than the club. light pollution is also the first and only longplaying release from the label in 2020.
