Released as part of the Wolfgang Tillmans – There were 30 years between 1943 and 1973. 30 years from 1973 was the year 2003 exhibition, which is being held at the Kunstverein in Hamburg from 23 September to 12 November 2017.

Wolfgang Tillmans has devised a 35-minute sound installation as part of the exhibition. The installation takes the exhibition’s inner-city context as its starting point, and operates in conjunction with numerous photographs (from a variety of Tillmans’ work phases) and video works to transform the space into a single cinematic whole.

The Kunstverein in Hamburg is now releasing the 35-minute sound work 'Hamburg Sud / Nee IYaow eow eow as a CD, accompanied by a 48-page booklet that features exhibition views photographed and designed by Wolfgang Tillmans.

Electronic manipulations of Tillmans’ own voice, made to sound alternately choral, guttural and absurd, are mixed with a kind of sung evocation of the four directions of the compass – to which the exhibition hall is almost exactly aligned. To provide this counterpart voice, Tillmans invited the Hamburg-born and internationally renowned singer Billie Ray Martin. The alternating singing styles are embedded within long silent pauses, when visitors can hear noise from the two routes of traffic between which the Kunstverein is located: the cluster of platforms at Hamburg’s central railway station, and Klosterwall, one of the city’s main thoroughfares.

Through the interplay of screeching railway lines, traffic noise, the reverberation of the immediate environment, word play, and voice explorations, Tillmans uses the sound work to react to aspects specific to the exhibition room at the Kunstverein in Hamburg: you can hear the city, but do not see it.

In Further Listening, the second part of the CD, Tillmans presents further experimental solo pieces, collaborations, and two works that were previously released last year (now available for the first time on CD): Make It Up As You Go Along, Tillmans’ first release, and Device Control, which first came to public attention in 2016 when a full-length version of the song appeared as a guest contribution on Endless, a visual album by the US R&B musician Frank Ocean.

Golden Teacher started life as a studio collaboration between Glasgow's noise punk trio, Ultimate Thrush and Glasgow's all analogue house duo, Silk Cut. The results of their collaboration turned the ears of all who heard them, not least Twitch who after one listen asked if he could release the project on Optimo Music label.

Recorded live, direct to tape at Glasgow's legendary Green Door studios with minimal overdubbing and editing, the tracks feature various associates of the band contributing vocals and additional percussion. It's a little hard to describe Golden Teacher's sound (always a good thing in our book) but imagine Arthur Russell's Dinosaur L jamming with Bobby O, K Alexi Shelby, Liaisions Dangereuses, Imagination, some voodoo drummers and Sly & Robbie. It is in our opinion one of the most original and wildest records to come out of anywhere in 2012. We like to call it hypno-psych voodoo groove.

The resulting 5 track 12" EP comes in a beautiful hand screen printed sleeve constructed by the band and will be released in this format as a limited edition of 250 copies. Any further pressings will be in a generic Optimo Music sleeve.

Golden Teacher made their live debut at an Optimo night in Glasgow in early October. In future they will be playing select live shows at times and places of their choosing. If you are looking for slick, smooth, generic computer made music, this release probably isn't for you, Sugar.

His slo-mo, sci-fi, tribal techno chugger 'Dust To Dust' is a mesmerising scream from the depths of the psychic abyss. Hailing from Ljubljana in Slovenia, Vitorijoski's 'The Voice Of Bárbaros' with its eastern turbo-gallop instantly reminded us of Simple Symmetry, Mehmet Aslan or something we'd hear on the great Disco Halal. We absolutely HAD TO squeeze it on here, no questions asked. And of course Krokakai and The Mamba you will know from the first two digital-only releases. Both of these tracks have had a huge interest from fans of the label and are the reason Dancefloor Detonators came about in the first place. DJs who have played one or both of these tracks include Andrew Weatherall, Thomas Von Party, Bufi, Cosmo Vitelli, Joakim, DJ Sofa, Ivan Smagghe, Nathan Gregory Wilkins, Vladimir Ivkovic, Myako and more.

All tracks have been (re)mastered especially for this vinyl release.
