Those disco specialists at To Rack & Ruin are back in business, kicking off their 2016 campaign with an absolute scorcher from Moscovite producer Phil Gerus. After making waves with a string of releases for the likes of Futureboogie and Sonar Kollektiv, Gerus arrives at the Mancunian edit institution in fine form, ready to take over the world with a quartet of fully loaded floor movers for all you dancing fools.



Going hard and heavy from the off, Phil introduces himself with the tumbling toms and zero gravity sequences of ‘Delicious Wishes’, a neon tinged reshape of an Angelic original. Working the loops and FX like a pro, the Russian sprinkles space dust all over this camp cosmic classic, packing a whole host of extra oomph in the warp drive! “Stop! Let’s Slow Down” follows hot on its heels, powering into the peak time in a shimmer of sequins as it supercharges a boogie vintage for the modern DJ. The finest floor shaking boogie reheat since Tiger & Woods last hit a hole in one, this is gonna raise the temperature at any party worth its salt.  

Over on the flip Phil turns his attention to Italo, setting pulses racing and feet stomping with the space age sound of “Bossy Lady”. Playing free and easy with the pitch control, the Moscow magician conjures up a space disco body mover complete with tripped out vocals, chunky guitar and nebulous synth lines. Sticking with the moods and grooves of the Mediterranean, Phil takes us home with a spaced out version of an all time Italo classic. Reworking the percussion and looping up that low slung baseline, our host supercharges the groove for modern club deployment, rounding off another essential release from your favourite edit imprint.

Over his twenty year The Hacker has traversed a spread of styles, from frosted electro to raging techno slammers. Midnight Bliss shows another side of this multitalented artist. Warmth flows from the title piece. Clean rhythm patterns are spiked by synthlines as liquid melodies are swirled into a carefree cocktail that simply radiates.  “Heavy Duty Disco” takes over the flip and runs headlong into speakers. The Hacker builds a track of generous proportions. Textured keys weave through columns of toms and snapping beats before bruising basslines descend for a late night encounter of formidable intent. Without doubt, a future classic from a classic creator.

What Is What (Facets Edit)

The second Keep on Wankin EP continues Hell Yeah label boss Marco’s on going quest for the perfect remixes. This time out he serves up the most Balearic Gabba influenced material yet and takes you on a trip to the clouds with Bjorn Torske and Fango both stepping up.

First up is Bjorn Torske’s take on everybody’s favourite Luminodisco tune ‘Oh Mary.’ It’s an impossibly adventurous 11 minute epic with buoyant chords dancing over trilling guitars. Lush, multi-layered and brimming with musicality, this is the sort of dubbed out yet percussively lively masterpiece that will mark the high point of any set as it washes over you time and time again.

Then it’s to Fango’s chunky and spaced out take on Somerville & Wilson’s ‘Yantar.’ It’s been the final track of all recent Fango sets around the world for a while now and that won’t change any time on thanks to the slow build to a colourful dub disco peak. It takes you ever higher on wandering lead synths as the fat drums pump away below.

Sascha Funke takes control of the first remix, in this case it is 'Lazer In The Jungle' which begins with a heart beat, sounds and percussion accompany, charming minimalism until you start the journey through a conversation of synthesizers marked by arrangements that bounce from one side to another, a celestial pad appears, the textures are acidified giving way to the bass that ends up to get us into the trip. Suddenly, everything disappears, empty, air, the percussions return, the groove begins, the hook of the original theme appears for the first time so that your whole body ends up dancing until the end.
