The 48th guest in the Set the Mood series is DONK, a rising DJ and producer from the Dutch underground scene. Known for his deep and groove-oriented sound, he presents a carefully curated set designed for one of the most important moments of the night: the opening.

For DONK, a perfect opening set depends on many factors. The venue, the time of the night, the rest of the line-up, how crowded the space is, and the energy of the early crowd all influence the direction of the set. It’s not just about playing music; it’s about shaping the atmosphere.

In preparing this mix, he imagined a club that fills up quickly with a crowd eager to dance. The setting is intimate, with low lighting and few distractions, allowing the music to take full focus. The line-up suggests a night that leans toward deep, groovy, and slightly spacey sounds, and DONK’s set reflects that vision.

He believes that a good opening set should never be too fast or intense. It’s a moment to capture the audience’s curiosity with detailed sound design and steady rhythms that gradually build energy. Rather than peaking too soon, the goal is to create a slow burn that pulls people toward the dance floor. By the end, the room should be warm, moving, and ready for the next artist to take things further.

His selection is rooted in minimal house grooves, hypnotic techno, and melodic, percussive textures. The result is a set that feels fresh, dynamic, and open-ended, allowing the energy to evolve naturally as the night progresses.

DONK is based in Breda and is also a co-founder of @ruis_collective, a platform dedicated to community-building, collaboration, and pushing sonic boundaries. His style blends deep rhythms with bleepy textures and hypnotic synths, always guided by a strong sense of tension and release. Whether behind the decks or in the studio, he focuses on locking the crowd into a flow and leading them through carefully shaped waves of sound and movement.

Up next, we are pleased to present another familiar face, Dani De Lara!  

Dani is an emerging DJ in the London scene having moved here from Spain. His Midweek Session party started as a weekly gathering of friends in his flat, but has quickly grown into staple party in a lot of people's calendars in venues such as Peckham Audio, Venue MOT and Carpet Shop. He shares a similar vision to us in terms of creating a platform for local artists and forming a community around the music so we are more than happy to have him as a part of the Fragment mix series. 

His style is hard to pin down as he can play a broad range of sounds ranging from techno, to hard groove, to house. He would describe himself as a hard groove enthusiast but for this mix, he delivers his interpretation of the Fragment sound whilst staying true to his own style.

We are super excited to present the 137th episode featuring an hour or trippy techno cuts from @lianerosenthal

LIANE is an Amsterdam based artist, DJ, music producer, sound designer and a trained industrial designer. Her sets are demonstrating a steady flow infused with depicted turbulence that challenges and breaks the storyline. Influenced by the underground music scene of Jerusalem, her unique sound incorporates deep, raw, dark, industrial and groovy layers. Her music weaves a distorted fog of noisy textures with an experimental edge that carries the dancefloor through a dynamic soundscape characterized by tension-build and release.
LIANE wishes to use the vibrational power of sound as a mediator of emotions that can be shared collectivly on the dancefloor.

She hosts and curates ROAMING EDGES, a residency at RadioRadio FM (Amsterdam), which showcases a variety of sounds, from experimental to techno.

LIANE strives to create an immersive experience exploring emotional and mental depths. She challenges sonic boundaries while maintaining a continuous rolling flow that breaks and reforms, leaving a lasting impression on the crowd.
