Macrocosm October 2023

The now defunct label Fire Recordings still holds a massive hold over me 20 years down the line. Operational from 2000 -2003, Cass Cutbush, Pete Martin & Lee Burridge's label produced and signed some amazingly innovative sounds at the time, this sound has and still influences me to this day. It was inevitable that a Spotlight Show would emerge from the flames (ahem) and here we stand. These are MY favourite tracks of the label that together create (hopefully) a shortened but beautiful story of the mighty Fire Recordings. I hope ya dig =)

Here is the recording of my 3 hour set from Progressive Sessions at Anjunalounge in Stirchley, Birmingham. What a quality night it was again. Huge shout out to OBZ who played a quality set, and to the team at Anjunalounge for having us once again. See you soon.

Track 1 was super distorted, so I have cut it out so that it doesnt ruin the rest of the mix.

Really pushed myself throughout this mix. Breaks, prime time trance and a couple of classics to boot at the end. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as i had fun mixing it.

Live at Progressive Sessions - 18/11/23 (MTR Episode 84)

Welcome to Wednesday and another exclusive edition of the Il Modo Progcast. Join us on our journeys around Planet Progressive, as we gain access to the finest DJ talents we can, delivering mixes for your listening pleasures...

This week, on the eve of St Andrews Day, we return to the home of a (now ex-pat) proud Scotsman, who has showed us support, strength and encouragement from day one. A highly skilled DJ, who has recently turned his talents towards graphic/AI design, we are delighted to present, Garry Howden! 

Garry has been DJ'ing since 1991, where as an 11 year old he used to play the hardcore tracks that formed the entrance into a new, burgeoning rave scene. A few years later, at the age of 16 he fell in love with the trance sound of the late 1990's. 

This love soon swayed towards Progressive House however, where Garry soon discovered Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Nick Warren & many more of those DJ's we now describe as icons. Naturally, and like so many ravers turned DJ's, this led to Garry, and his best friend Allan, to organise and plan their own nights. Hosted in their hometown of Fort William near Glasgow, this fledgling night was called Dysfunktion.

It was here that Garry was able to fine tune his DJ skills, often warming up for the likes of John '00' Fleming, Slam and Fergie. In doing so they would turn Dysfunktion into a popular night out, based as it was away from a major population centre. 

Garry still collects many records from this style of music and has loved the Progressive sound, both the new and classic styles. He continues to play even after moving to the USA to start a new family.

 More recently, as his taste and style has matured, Garry has rediscovered a lost passion for Breaks and Liquid Drum & Bass, finding its more diverse rhythms and melodies a more exciting and challenging form of music to engage with. Having produced several guest mixes for various online platforms, as well as keeping his own residencies on Saturo & PHUK, Garry delves once more into his catalogue of broken, atmospheric beats for this, his second guest mix on our platform. From Disco To Techno..

Ashley Finessi (Fragmnt) is the country boy keeping it real through the love of his craft and connection to the music.

Moving to the UK in 2011, he entered his first DJ competition which opened doors and lead to frequented club & bar sets in the party town of Norwich. This is where Fragmnt first developed an true obsession with the underground music scene, it quickly embraced him.

On his return to Australia Ash continued his ever-growing passion for electronic music, quickly cemented his feet within the Perth scene. His love of the dance music, community & culture has led him playing for local nights such as Bioma, Addiction, The gathering ,Oshun , Deviance ,Tanos , Sonus Sol, Above All Else, also larger events such as God Said No (Blazing Swan) and Inaugural Blossom Festival. 

Fragmnt has also turned his recent focus on the events/promotion side of the music scene which has led to the birth of BIOMA. 

Not being confined to one style of music, this maestro moves seamlessly through various genres with ease while still maintaining his strong connection to the signature deep, melodic, progressive sounds he is known for. 

Fragmnt's sets on SoundCloud display his raw creativity and ability to build and deliver, with such an affinity and passion for good music, expect the unexpected & be prepared to be taken on a journey.
