I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Come unto Me, and rest;
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon My breast."
I came to Jesus as I was,
Weary, and worn, and sad;
I found in Him a resting-place,
And He has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"Behold, I freely give
The living water: thirsty one,
Stoop down, and drink, and live."
I came to Jesus, and I drank
Of that life-giving stream;
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
And now I live in Him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
"I am this dark world's Light;
Look unto Me, thy morn shall rise,
And all thy day be bright."
I looked to Jesus, and I found
In Him my Star, my Sun;
And in that Light of life I'll walk
Till traveling days are done.

Beneath this mask—this smile I wear—
Which tells the world that I’m okay,
That I am strong and nothing in
My life can drag me down today,
Beneath this mask hides loneliness,
And questions: what is life all for?
And worries and anxieties
Like rain from heaven, pour and pour.

“Why do you struggle on your own?
Just come to Me, pour out and call,
The feeling of your weaknesses
I’m touched with—yet I conquered all.
As Spirit in your spirit I’m
Contactable, available,
I’ll make more home within your heart,
And heal by life your turbid soul.”

Beneath this mask—this smile I wear—
I am a child longing for
A home where I feel safe and loved,
A people I can call my own,
Beneath this mask—a cry for help,
I’m drifting on a stormy sea,
I’m tossed about from wave to wave,
With no direction how to be.

“Why do you struggle on your own?
I’ll be your Good Samaritan,
I’ll pour the oil and the wine,
I’ll lead you to your home, the inn,
The household of the faith is where,
Your turbid soul will find true rest,
And I too find My resting place,
My Body, where I’m manifest."
