  This song began its life as a composition that JJ wrote one evening on the piano and synth. He also wrote the lyrics and sings this one. He was very excited to share it with us, so he invited me, Ken, Stephen and Tez into the project immediately after finishing. However, we couldn't make the thing work at first, so JJ went back and retooled it, streamlined it, and gave it back to us. We all really liked the Floydiness of the groove, and his signature psychedelic coda ending. 
  After Ken had laid down his inspired, foundational  drums, I laid down my bass part with my big monster five-string bass, which is good for really low tones. Then it was Tez's turn. He came up with something very Gilmore-esque, with his always exciting leads throughout the first section. Stephen then added some brilliant, filling acoustic guitar to the first section. He, along with Tez, also added some trippy electric guitar to the coda. Finally, Josh just thought it needed something to push the coda over the edge, so he added the slide at the end, too.
  Then, of course, we asked Stephen to produce and mix it for us, which he did in his always expert way. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it. Also, we wish a very happy New Year to everyone!

Midgard is a Germanic term for the world or the earth. The word has survived in this or a similar meaning as Gothic midjungards, Old Norse miðgarðr, Old English middangeard, Old Saxon middilgard and Old High German mittil(a)gart and was used in both sacred and profane language. Midgard, literally "middle court" or "middle garden", actually means the dwelling place of humans in the middle of the world. The gods (Asen) live in Asgard.

In contrast to the vertical world view of the world tree Yggdrasil, in the Norse imagination Miðgarðr (west) and Útgarðr (east) describe a horizontal, circular world view as two interrelated poles. This corresponds to the settlement structure of the north up to the time of the industrial revolution, in which the farmstead forms the center of the world.

However, the basic word garðr, which in medieval Scandinavia mainly stood for "farmstead", originally meant an enclosure, a border wall or fence, dividing the world into two opposing areas: an inside and an outside. The enclosed inside is the living area of man, where culture is possible under the protection of the gods, while the demons and giants live on the outside.

In Eddic literature, Miðgarðr is therefore not only the world of men, but also that of the gods. Miðgarðr is created by the gods, who build their castle Ásgarðr in it. They then assign Miðgarðr to the first humans Askr and Embla as their dwelling place. However, Miðgarðr is also sometimes used to refer to the wall or fence that protects the human world from the giants.

Midgard

One of my very favorite sonatas is Beethoven's Opus 10, No. 2 in G.  Each movement is thrilling to play. My inspired piece captured a little taste of the 4th movement Scherzo "Allegro Assai", mostly his lovely melodic theme in the middle of this dynamic movement.  I have taken much liberty, and over-sentimentalized the melody in my "contemporary classical" style. Those of you familiar with this Sonata, will certainly recognize some of the take-a-ways!

[void phase II] / The Memory Of Sound

The silence after the storm feels sacred. But it also feels like the danger never disappeared. As if it's still lingering around the corner. Yet, the melodies return, gentle, almost human. So gentle it feels comforting. 

I thought to myself "This is what peace sounds like, if peace could bleed." It made me feel safe once again. I don't know it yet, but this is the last time I'll feel calm. The last time I'll feel safe, and soon I'd come to beg for this safety. 

Though right now, the Void hums softly - not as a threat, but as a promise. It's patient with me. It knows I'll come back to it soon. And deep down, I already know that I will. Somewhere in the static, the Void hums a lullaby. My melody - played back to haunt me once more.
