The Underground

For its 225th release Freerange welcomes this exciting Austrian producer who goes by the name Demuja, you already know him if you follow closely LYO. His "Mary Janes Theory" record caused something of a stir when it came out at the start of the year on his fledgling vinyl-only label Muja. Taking his inspiration from classic deep house but with a rough and raw approach, Demuja sit proudly alongside the likes of Ross From Friends, Mall Grab or Rimbaudian riding the new wave of fresh, contemporary house.
On his Freerange debut, the Move EP offers up four original tracks, each with their own distinct flavour. Opening the release we have title track "Move" spring into action with simple Rhodes chords floating across a crisp, driving up-tempo groove showing off the deeper side to Demuja. Next up "B.o.o.m" offers us a simple yet captivating, dancefloor-focused affair with a lone, repeating piano stab hooking us into the action. Flipping over we have "Into My Brain" which brings some acid-tinged Italo vibes and a jacking beat to proceedings whilst the closing track "Turn Me On" cuts up a much-loved Paradise Garage classic for a warm, soul-infused slice of classic, bumpy house music.

It's been quite a wait for new &ME material here on Keinemusik. But these two new cuts, adding to our catalogue number KM046, sure have been worth waiting for. The EP starts with The Rapture Pt.II and as the title already suggests, it coherently takes up where his last original material had left us, in a stirred state of sweet, harmony-kissed affection. Known as a virtuoso of sound-details, &ME lives up to that reputation, implementing fine synth-elements and temperately rattling percussions, all conjoined by shimmering layers and, of course, an ultimately heart-melting Piano improvisation that at some point will play along to the rhythm of its synthetic brother to a finale that will leave no crowd untouched.

"Solaris" on the flipside adds indeed a futuristic note to the arrangement, opening up with a broken beat and propelling claps. A cut that, as much as its predecessor, is relying on flow and organic shifts rather than forced and peaktime formatted gimmickry, adding a synth arpeggio, white noise, vocal chants and harmonies in a rather subtle way. Nevertheless, it unfolds a compelling strength to heat the dancefloor gradually through its playtime.

Black Loops returns to Freerange for the follow up release to his 2018 EP
entitled 7Hills, one of the labels biggest vinyl sellers of recent years and
another reminder of why Riccardo Paffetti is one of the most consistent and
prolific house producers on the scene. With recent releases on Madhouse, Toy
Tonics, Neovinyl and Traxx Underground, as well as remixes for the likes of
Waajeed (scheduled), Tender Games and Joey Negro, Black Loops continues to be in high demand and has resulted in a packed DJ schedule taking him from South Africa to Australia, from the US to Asia as well as playing regularly in Europe and his home city of Berlin.

For his Something Special release Black Loops has treated us to three original
tracks (with a fourth added for the digital package) which will please his regular followers whilst showing us a development to his sound. His trademark shuffling beats, warm bouncing basslines and analogue pads are all present and correct. Tracks that feel deceptively simple and minimal enough to sound lovely on big sound systems, but which also offer enough depth and musicality to touch the soul and connect with on a deeper level. But… we can also hear some fresh sound design coming into play, punchy FM synths cutting through the mix, some more delicate melodies and rolling arrangements which unfold gently and draw you into their warm confines.
