Undo - Delete

This piece is a support for Ukraine in this time of war. The melody is the National Anthem and I orchestrated it and created countervoices for choir that call for peace: pacem!

I like to make cinematic music as well. Just using my imagination with some good sounds to express it. In this case I used some photos from a hike into the Grand Canyon as inspiration.

E- Motion Pictures

As the title suggests the Organ plays a prominent role in this piece but also the Organ has to fit the orchestra organically. This was the interesting challenge for me. The organ has many colors of sound for instance at letter G of the score where you hear a Bourdon 16' and a Flageolet 1' together; this means a very low sound combined with a vey high sound.

Organic Orchestra

Vasyl Barvinsky was a Ukrainian composer (1888-1963) who can be placed in the impressionist era. This prelude in G is originally for piano solo and during the Orchestration Challenge of 2022 (Thomas Goss) I was able to orchestrate this piece. I added a new part for alto saxophone but other than this I stayed very close to the original music and scored it for large symphonic orchestra.

This music accompanies a few photos we took while hiking towards the Matterhorn and Zermatt, Switzerland last summer. It was a wonderful experience to see some of creation's finest scenes.

Mighty Mysterious Mount Matterhorn

Most romantic music in films has been composed after the wonderful music of the second symphony of Rachmaninoff, second movement. This Romance is my attempt to do so. I followed roughly what Rachmaninoff did as to orchestration and such.
Special thanks to my daughter Elianne; who played the violin solo so romantically as well as multiple other violin parts!

This music makes use of polychords: this stacking of certain chords gives a wonderful atmosphere of being in space.

Universe - Glory of Creation

The Magnificat (Lofzang van Maria) is one of the most famous Gospel Canticles. Besides it is used in the time of Advent it has a traditional place in the Evensong (Vesper) as found in the Book of Common Prayer.  This text has been used as the lyrics for this composition.
This version has been set for mixed choir (SATB with little divisi) and organ and realized by programming samples.

Magnificat - Book of Common Prayer

Nunc dimittis (Lofzang van Simeon) is a well known Gospel Canticle.  It has a close relation to my Magnificat and they share the doxology. Besides it is used in the time of Advent it has a traditional place in the Evensong (Vesper) as found in the Book of Common Prayer.  This text has been set for mixed choir (SATB with little divisi) and organ and realized by programming samples.
