One can argue that "Funky Drummer" & "Amen Brother" are the most sampled beats of all time.  But "Planet Rock" which is coming up on it's 40th birthday come April 17.  For Electro it's the same thing as the Amen Break is for Drum & Bass.  It's been a staple, like a lot of staples since the 80's.  

No doubt The Fun House club which literally established Electro & Freestyle as legit genres between 1982-1987 (Hearthrobs), that sound is what New York offered the UK before the Jack Trax albums.  Those Electro Comps on Streetsounds Records.

There is no doubt that House Music was the primary genre which fueled the early UK Rave Scene.  But Detroit Techno & New York Electro & Freestyle beats got stirred in the pot.

There is a loose connection between all of this because people absolutely forgot the Hip Hop connection.  Where Beats were the primary source of sound before the MC dropped their science.

We know the impact of this, after D&B lost an all-star MC two weeks ago, RIP Skibadee. 

BEATS.  It always comes down to the beats.  So this GO BANG#11 is the BEATS, 40 years later.  It's not a Remix, Redux or Edit.  It's me F*cking with the Beats.

Both Ellis D & Rennie Pilgrem have been in the EDM scene since the beginning of time (haha) and both were a part of an act called Rhythm Section along with Richie T & Nick Newton. Rhythm Section were an electronic rave act before Ellis D & Rennie Pilgrem moved onto their own careers as an artist. This mix from 2010 was recorded LIVE at Rough Tempo Radio a place at that time that had guest mixes from top breakbeat acts. The mix itself starts out with some old school breaks sounds as Rhythm Section then moves on to individual mixes from Rennie Pilgrem & Ellis D.

"Call It Techno" was the blueprint track which was written on June 4, 1989.  It was at the forefront of European Rave Culture and became a well known track in the U.K. & Germany.  The documentary "We Call It Techno" explains it right from the beginning and from that came the second & third Love Parade themes being named "The Future Is Ours" off the XL/Citibeat LP by Musto & Bones.  And "My House Is Your House" from the Break Boys which was Frankie Bones aka on Fourth Floor Records in 1990.

Frankie became the American Pioneer of Rave Culture on both coasts in 1990, playing Techno as a movement.  The Peace, Love, Unity Movement which in 1993 became PLUR after a fight broke out at an event in The Bronx which had Richie Hawtin as it's headliner.

And the rest is history.  If words can paint the picture here, the first 5 Soundcloud links will describe a DJ who has a journey of a lifetime & still is active in 2024.  The music that comes from the heart & soul of the Brooklyn Underground.
