7 Questions (Hippo Bareina Remix)

It had been quiet from the Swedish house music duo franskild up until April this year when they dropped their single Inevitable. With their sights set on a comeback EP, Love Ojensa and Tim Söderström started producing new sounds during a weekend in their Copenhagen studio. The plan was to finalize 3 – 4 tracks, but quickly realized they had more than needed.

– During the year and half of not making music as franskild, the amount of ideas and unfinished demos piled up on our hard drives. The good thing was that we never forced ourselves or each other do anything with it, we just let it be. Eventually, with time, we both felt the excitement of making franskild music return, Tim says.

_ Found inspiration in garage and jungle _
Having built a name for themselves with a string of original releases displaying their melancholic, melodic, playful house music, the album reveals a new side to their sound, letting their love for UK club music run as a common thread through the album.

– We’ve always been big fans of UK-garage and jungle music and sure, it has influenced our music to a certain degree in the past but on this record, it is more prominent than ever before. Over the last year and a half, we’ve both been listening to a lot of older jungle which inspired us to introduce breakbeats in our own music, Love explains.

Tim continues:
– The process of making this album was very intuitive, we never decided to move in a specific direction, we just played around without limiting ourselves. What actually ended up on the record might be a bit different from our previous stuff but you will still recognize us; our melodies and playfulness is still very much present.

_ Old material in new light _
Alongside the new material, the duo chose to revisit a couple of older demos. And they’ve really dug deep. Some of the demos on “You” are as old as the birth of franskild and date back to around the Autumn of 2013.

– One exciting aspect of working with older songs is the limitations we had to take into consideration. Take the hi-hat in the first track for example, it’s changing in sound during the track and we have no idea why and we can’t modify it but sounds dope so we decided to use it. Perfection is boring and often ruins our creativity. This way of almost sampling ourselves only made it better and more fun, Love says. The album will be released through their own label Lotss Records on November 22.
