LITTLE WINGS - By Now

The latest record of Jean-Jacques Perrey, one of the pioneer of electronic pop and moog music , is a collaboration with the young french maverick David Chazam. An electropop duo thought the ages ! It features new materials, previously unavailable, and rare live footage in Brussels.

Biog :
An electropop duo through the ages. The collaboration started in 1996. Young french musician Chazam found the adress of electropop master Jean Jacques Perrey in a clever and super well documented San Franciscan bay area magazine : "REsearch". Issue #14 in 1994 was about "Incredibly strange music", and a subtantial article about Perrey was written by V-Vale, publisher. In the interview the master Perrey would say that he was ready to start any new collaboration like some others he had with other musicians in the past. Chazam sent a letter, and added a tape with some of his tracks. Jean Jacques letter arrived a few weeks later in postal box, rather simple answer : "Où ? Quand ? Comment ?" (Where, when, how ?). Artistic collaboration became immediately a real friendship that never ceased. During first meetings in Paris and Evian, a special residence at Chazam studio in Bordeaux was planified. On a studio under the roofs in the center of Bordeaux (in the middle of "le possee funky de la rue St Rémi"), and then in the countryside (in the middle of Poitou-Charentes, that means : "nowhere"), they created their legendary vinyl album "Eclektronics" released vinyl on Base Nautic, CD on Basta records. This was just before the wave of worldwide re-cognition of Jean Jacques music by artists like Dj Premier, Gangstarr, Air, Wagon Christ, Dj Shadow, etcaetera... At the time french electronic musicians and hipsters were then eager to collect in the past knowledge, roots, justifications and sometimes fake influences of their own actual work.
After the release some live acts were demanded to the duo. First one was during the Brighton Bop Festival. An other was Brussel's major cultural center Beursschowburg's amazing festival "Klinkende Munt".
A true "must be" event that stood in Brusselaars and the group memories for a long time. That night, many of the tracks were played onstage by the master and the band "Thee Eclekticks" for the first and only time, 30 years after their creation in studio. "Cats in the night" co-composed with Angelo Badalamenti is one of those. Other tracks signed by Pat Prilly, the master's daughter herself, were also played by the band.
Rehearsals and show were recorded, and the present LP "ELA" contains some of those exclusive documents. After that, duo would play in London, Geneva, Lausanne, Paris, St Petersburg, Moscow, Bucarest...
In the mean time Jean Jacques and David had some other opportunities to continue their studio work. They would record some tracks here and there, from time to time, without any other specific aim than working together. Some of those tracks were published on the CD version of "Eclektronics" published by label Basta from Holland.
Here are some new material previously unavailable. - "Electropop parade" is a new track in the style of "Baroque Hoedown", famous mainstream Disney's electrical parade theme composed by Jean Jacques in the sixties. - "Kids corner", "Hectic Joker" are perfect dance tracks for children, try with yours, you'll see. - "Chronophonie" will sound familiar to french "baby-boomers". In the seventies the track was aired on french tv as an intermission cartoon jingle on national channel. The lovely theme would accompany the consolation of a wounded baby "2" by his mother. That was super cute indeed. In the average audience, no one could know who was the composer of that track taken from a library music album. Even worst : "library music", as well as "easy listening music" are still considered as "sub-genres" and very often despised in France. - "Gossipo perpetuo" is a new version of Jean Jacques super speed remix, here in an even more hardcore and keen "Chazamesque" shape. - "The sponge" is a jingle composed by Chazam in a very "Perreysque" style for a strange Non-Science-Fiction Tv show. Main melody sounds of that track were produced by using the ONDIOLINE, the extraordinary instrument that pushed Perrey to fame and legend. - "What's up duck" is a rehearsal take by "thee Eclektricks", studio version is available on "Eclektronics" album. - "28th paradigm", "Cats in the night" and "El Nino" were performed live in 1998, in Brussels at the Beursschowburg.
