NYC leftfield disco darlings Phenomenal Handclap Band made their first appearance on RNT by way of a collab with JKriv in 2022, and now they return for an offering all their own, the Burning Bridges EP. The title track is a groundbreaking hypnotic post-disco pop gem, and Prins Thomas turns the tempo knob up a few clicks and launches into an extended interstellar  excursion with his remix. On the B side the cinematic slow burner ‘It Was The Summer’ begins sparse and hazy and builds to a driving peak of backbeat rhythm and an insistent vocal soliloquy. Each Other (Justin Strauss & Max Pask) then take the tune straight to the rave with arpeggiated and acidic synths, recasting the haunting vocals as a modern New Wave anthem.

Following on from Guido Schneider’s enigmatic ‘Fo-
cus On’ Album last year, Poker Flat are especially
proud to introduce the next in the series, in the scin-
tillating form of Focus On: Argy.
Comprising partly of new and exclusive produc-
tions by Argy with a strong handful of well known
and up-coming names, and highlights from his back-
catalogue of releases and remixes, the mix acts as
a showcase for Argy’s unique style, taking influence
from strong, energetic peak time house through to
deep and spaced out percussive journeys. Hot col-
laborations with Solomun, The Mole, Maral Salmassi,
Dj Gregory, Jerome Sydenham and Bayoga all open
up various mindsets, various avenues of Argy’s musi-
cal passions, as we traverse through an impeccable
selection of modern house music.
Not wishing to conform to the rules of a mainstream
house Dj-compilation, Argy takes a bold and clear
stance when it comes to the structure of the mix.
The first three tracks start things running strong, as
if you’ve just arrived in the middle of a peak-time set,
with the phasing chord stabs from Argy’s Remix of
Jerome Sydenham’s Ebian melting into the powerful
bass of ‘The Storm’. It’s a soaring, urgent introduc-
tion that’s wonderfully unconventional and captures
the complete spirit of Argy’s idealology. These tracks
were designed for the dancefloor, and it spells out
the intentions of the mix with style and honesty. From
there on things become more cerebral, with Argy’s
debut hit on Poker Flat, ‘Love Dose’, introducing a
passage where time is frozen and the party begins to
unfold at its own heady pace. From there on we are
simply left in the delightful and submissive position of
the Listener, as the introduction also serves as a con-
tract between Argy and his audience. We are now
completely under his spell... locked in and Focused
On. Each track is clearly introduced with a defined
mixing style, announcing each new moment to the
audience and making a spectacle of the variety and
depth of music on offer.
‘I would never dare to approach an album without
a concept,’ Argy divulges, and its clear from listen-
ing to both the exclusive vinyl tracks, and the hour
long mix, that he means what he says. Each brand
new and exclusive track featured on the vinyl release
is a fresh collaboration between Argy and another
producer or musician, and the concept dictates that
both must have an active part in the recording of the
track. Argy wanted to try something new, something
very rare, which is to group together collaborations
with various other artists in the form of an album,
and is a highly-focused album at that, exploring as
any different dancefloor possibilities as are possible
within his sound.
Traversing the spectrum from the intense travelling
grooves of ‘Anenome’, with Solomun, a track that
is perhaps the most energetic trip on show here, to
the evolving percussive workout of ‘Under No Illu-
sion’, with percussionist Bayoga, there are endless

The opener "Stratosphere" by Heaven INC. immediately lifts off with driving beats and radiant melodic energy. Its spacious textures and sweeping synths evoke a sense of weightlessness – as if ascending through shimmering layers of sound into the upper sky.

The journey continues with "Cosmos", a collaboration between Heaven INC. and Ákos Győrfy. Here, the energy becomes darker and more hypnotic. Behind these tracks stand two rising forces in the progressive scene. Heaven INC., a Budapest-based duo, are known for their melodic sensibility and emotional depth. With releases on respected imprints like Freegrant Music and 90watts, they continue to shape their unique sound between progressive house and deep techno. Ákos Győrfy, also from Hungary, is a versatile producer whose work blends organic textures with modern sound design – his releases on RUNE Recordings and Polyptych Limited speak to his talent for creating rich, cinematic grooves.

Exclusive West & Hill 'Tala'

A highlight in Trikk's set at Sonar a few weeks ago is finally released, namely Dutch producer West & Hill's oriental affair 'Tala' is out as part of Connected's 'Connectedbeats Edition 1'. A track that seems to come along rather retaining reaches its mystical momentum when synth chords meet the oud and culminate in a desert-like or desert-dusk enriched sound composition as the lead-synth is raised in the same tone as the oud. Whipping claps and a dry bass line further the track's core ambition, that of carrying the listener through the 'Tala' of the track with the title meaning 'time structure/ metrics' in Indian music. 

'Connectedbeats Edition 1' will be released on Connected on August 9th, 2019.

Berlin-based label AEON is celebrating its 50th release with a unique Compilation called ‘VERSUS’.  This EP features seven very special collaborations from cutting-edge artists such as Bawrut & Benjamin Fröhlich, Panthera Krause & Peter Invasion, Alex Niggemann & Speaking Minds, Kimshies & Futuristant, Darlyn Vlys & Amarcord, Biesmans & Jepe and Rina & Uriah Klapter. Label boss Alex Niggemann explains: “The idea was to get some of the core artists together, setting up collaborations that might would never have happened elsewhere and will forever stay as their first and exclusive work together.“ 

„Disco Tedesco“ is certainly a classic in the making. Alex Niggemann & Speaking Minds - two of the founding members of AEON - kick off with a very recognizable Disco vibe with their very first collaborating, reminding on the early hours of house music. A driving & funky bassline and its very recognizable hook, will put immediately a satisfying grin on your face, while making this tune stuck in your ears after the first listen.
Bawrut, who’s previously released on Life & Death and Permanent Vacation co-founder Benjamin Fröhlich bring a bit of a darker tune with subtle hints of breakbeat & acid to this EP, which is lightened up midway by a female vocal sample. The dark electro inspired sequencer bring you in a trance like state. „Kirmes“ is a track that will both perform well during peak time and afterhour sets.
Panthera Krause & Peter Invasion, who run the Leipzig based label Riotvan together, surprise with a breakbeat start of their first-ever collaboration as musicians… and that on AEON!
„Fiesta Hunuku“ has an industrial vibe, with sharp sounds and driving drum rhythm. Tension rises throughout and continues to build up this fusion of electro and Indie Dance, all leading up to an eccentric drop. 
„My Body Is Burning“ by the French duo Kimshies & mysterious Italian producer Futuristant instantly kicks off a club vibe. A female voice shouts: “My heart is aching…!“ Only to be joined by a dark vocoded voice later. It reminds us of an 80s science fiction movie and is surly the peak time bomb from this release. 
French DJ/Producer Darlyn Vlys & young Italian talent Amarcord created a modern sounding Proto-house banger, with a very recognizable melody and a female vocal throughout. With its groovy vocal stabs, long sweeping synths, and effected soundscape drums „ Talking Modern“ immediately feels „familiar“. 
Jepe, who recently released his debut EP on AEON and Biesmans, who’s part of the team for a while, bring a more melodic touch with their indie dance inspired tune „ Fashionably Late“. Lots of analogue synths build melodic layers to achieve a very danceable tune with an 80s reminiscent tone. 
The final collaboration of this EP comes from Rina & Uriah Klapter. Two talented musicians from the Tel Aviv scene. The track lives up to its name ‘Acid in 1986’, with its retro acid vibe, pumping „off-bassline“ and a male vocal sample to accompany this groovy after hour tune.
