Long Way Home marks Fred Everything’s fourth artist album, and the first to be released on his own label Lazy Days Recordings. Out June 21, 2018, the album indicates his return to his hometown of Montreal, after 8 years in San Francisco, and also marks a come back to the LP format after ten years.

For the first time, each track was produced in Fred's home studio, which provided an ideal environment for the revisiting of musical styles that Fred had not been able to explore on EP and Remix formats. The twelve-track album travels through a variety of tempos and rhythms, including broken and electro beats, a clear 80’s disco influence, as well as dub, all embraced by a balearic/coastal feel, inspired by recent travels to Mallorca, Ibiza and Croatia.
 
Collaborators on the album include Sio from South Africa; who Fred remixed last year on Atjazz Records Company, Jinadu from the UK; known for his many collaborations including Searching produced by Fred in 2015, which became a big hit thanks to the Deetron remix, Franky Selector; an old friend and collaborator from Montreal on vocoder duty and Hot Toddy (Crazy P) who added guitar on the summery disco number "Same Old Sound". Lauer (Tuff City Kids), Andre Lodemann and Ian Pooley have all  been confirmed for remix duties for the singles.

Long Way Home is the quintessential summer listening that will evoke the warmth of the sun year round. With the renewed energy of returning to the source, Fred Everything has realized his most accomplished work yet, which includes the long-held wish to record live string passages, which figure on three richly, emotive tracks. As a whole, Long Way Home displays a maturity of musical sensibility along with the rigorous attention to production that has come to distinguish his work for over twenty years, through over two hundred releases.

Introducing Kon‘s forthcoming compilation album ‘Kon & The Gang‘, we are delighted to present this 12″ sampler featuring two incredible cuts taken from the LP, as well as an exclusive remix from Kon

Opening track ‘Timeless’ could hardly be more aptly named. Sublime, smokey piano touches on the intro give way to an uplifting, languid disco track, jammed full of sunshine. Catchy vocal snippets, rock solid bass and guitar licks build up the groove beautifully alongside Kon‘s trademark staccato, squelchy synth chord stabs. On the flip-side Kon presents a remix of his own track ‘Timeless’. Highlighting piano loops and synth stabs from the original version, his rework moves the track seamlessly into Deep House territory, with smoothly rolling percussion and a hypnotic arrangement.

Truccy (better known as Compost’s Rainer Trüby and Corrado Bucci) close out proceedings with ‘Closer’, another sun-drenched groove with definite Balearic touches. Jazzy chords and touching vocals (performed by the duo themselves with assistance from Nicolas “Michael Ellis” Rogoll) lend the track a distinctly ‘live’ feel.

A delicious taste of what’s to come from ‘Kon & Gang<‘, this limited 12″ is surely going to be essential listening this summer.

Premiere: Fred Everything - Barbarella [Lazy Days Music]

Soundway Records present ’24 Hours in A Disco 1978 - 82’, 7 cuts of relentless disco grooves from the sublimely gifted Kiki Gyan. Hailed as Africa’s answer to Stevie Wonder, Ghanaian multi-instrumentalist Kiki Gyan was a musical wunderkind who by 1975 had risen from the lowly status of high school dropout to being ranked eighth in a poll of the greatest keyboardists in the world (occupying the rarefied air of the top ten with heavyweights like Steve Winwood, Billy Preston, and Stevie Wonder) as well as becoming an in-demand session player in the top recording studios of London - all before his twenty-first birthday. 

Out on his own, he produced a series of highly ambitious disco records aimed at positioning him as an international star, but weighed down by the excesses of the era, Gyan saw his meteoric rise matched by an equally swift fall back into obscurity. 

Loved dearly by his contemporaries and sorely missed since his death in 2005 the story of the life of Kofi Kwarko ‘Kiki’ Gyan is one often told with warning by his friends to the new generation of aspiring Ghanaian popstars.

Soundway Records now collects the best of Gyan’s work as a frontman and solo artist, featuring an array of electrifying disco grooves that still sound contemporary (and in some cases futuristic) decades after their initial release.

Released on CD and 2xLP both formats are accompanied with detailed liner notes written by Uchenna Ikonne. LP version comes with a free MP3 download of the release.
