This is the first release from Freak Power since their 2019 EP 'United State'. It's a cover of Curtis Mayfield's classic 'Move on Up', reimagined in a very elegant and stylish new disco setting. Ashley had actually done a couple of other Curtis Mayfield covers late last year and a DJ friend asked him to do a version of Move On Up. At first he couldn't imagine doing it. For him, the original was all about the brass and the strings and the hectic rhythm and seemed impossible to cover. Then he knew he had to step back and look at the heart of the song and see it for what it was. A political song, a social commentary song and above all a soul song. The wonderful James Wiltshire (F9 Audio, Phats and Small, Freemasons) heard Ashley's mix and offered to 'improve' it, which he did. The record is a present and future classic and is destined to outlive its creator. As it should.
