Snap into this Slim Jim....

“Vivid photo in my dome from this life, remains, staring at these numbers life got strange. R.I.P. my cousin Jahdy, swear I’ll never be the same, R.I.P. my brother Tiggz, swear I’ll never be the same. Raised up in the gutter, what we called the rock, St.Thomas VI just to be exact, living in the projects family members roaches and rats, but expensive furniture because we were sitting on cash.” With just these few bars, this distinctive artist was able to lyrically describe his upbringings in a nutshell. 
He goes by the name Slim Jim SmoothAxcent for whose asking. Slim Jim was born and raised on the beautiful, but hardcore island of St. Thomas. He was also partly brought up in the magical, but crazy city that never sleeps, New York City. Throughout his life he was always that dude that stood out in the crowd, wherever he went. He always thought he had a different perspective of life than everyone else. Thus, as someone who is considered or viewed as an eccentric or enigmatic person like himself he usually finds people to do one of two things:
1. Watch him in a very surprising but in a slightly positive way
2. Watch him in a very messed up and negative way
However, he felt he was just being himself or who God created him to be so he kept it 100 regardless of any one’s opinion. Or as he said, as Rocko comfortably puts it “Umma Do Me.” Moreover, he felt that he always been a creative person in whatever he put his mind to, in fact he even dresses out of the box, which leaves many questioning or wondering about his style. When Slim Jim attended the Joseph E. Gomez Elementary School, for instance, he became in love with art. His art teachers who sometimes understood him, especially Mr. Dallas, would emphasize how creative and imaginative he was in his artwork and how much they loved it. Unfortunately, as time passed, he strayed more and more out of drawing art, then finally gave up on his drawings, despite his successful creativity. There was still an unimaginable void in his life which left him feeling more of an outcast.  By the time Slim Jim was about 18, he was rebelling and street banging with a crew called “007twine” which caused him to be always in and out of trouble. His attitude was “F” the world and whoever lived in it and real talk, as he puts it. His unruly life and mindless behavior would have eventually led him to his death if it wasn’t for his new found love in music. It was art once again, but in a new form and melody, that saved him. Slim Jim realized he was always in love with music. “Music is music mehn let’s get it together” as he quotes. He also said without music the world would be a lifeless place; dull and colorless like life without fine art. With that being said Slim Jim started to write music, because at times, it got so hard for him to express a lot of his feelings and emotions without writing it down, thus a musical author was created.  Slim Jim, first started off with reggae music and like with everything else he does his peers said to him “Yo you hella nice and you got a different style from other artist. Just perfect your art and don’t give up” Now because of that he felt that he either got skills or they were on some bad drugs.. Nevertheless, to make a long story short, he went away to California where his whole lifestyle changed as he quoted in one of his line “swear I'll never be the same.” Slim Jim wanted to focus more on this newly discovered love and talent and stop the self -destructive ways. After being there a while, he then incorporated their city grammar, along with New York slick talk (smooth talker), with his clean lazy swag to create a smooth accent, in other words “SmoothAxcent” was born. Slim Jim became more versatile, from reggae to hip-hop to R&B to writing to any genre of music. Just when it finally seemed like it was all coming together, tragedy struck.  In  2009 everything hit rock bottom when his brother from another mother was violently killed at a night club!  He was one of the people that helped guide him to where he is today. The group Twine Stars(based off of his 007 Twine Family) included TiggzDaTruth, Cuzin Shane, Bongie and himself came together because they were all different hearts, one blood pursuing a life in music. The obstacles that Slim Jim faced in his life has made him feel like he was and still is in a spiritual warfare every day between good and evil, which he reflects in his music and sets him apart from the rest of society. Some may think that he is out of order but once you learn and understand his life and struggles, hopefully everything untwines about our eccentric Twine Star.
