TPS 053 - KARIŞIK LOKUM KUTUSU - Turkish record Selections by WoMu Vin

"Karışık Lokum Kutusu" translates to "A box of assorted Turkish delights", which I thought would be a fitting name to describe the variety of tracks in this all-vinyl mix recorded from OG Turkish records from the 70s and 80s, with a variety of styles including (but not limited to) modern takes on Anatolian folk, funk-infused pop and Arabesque. The mix features several artists including Arif Sağ, Zafer Dilek, Yıldıray Çınar and Hakkı Bulut, all of whom were highly influential in reinterpreting and modernising the music they performed and produced for other artists.

I am dedicating this mix to the dearly missed Mads Nimann Jensen (Instagram @madsnimann) whom we lost a year ago to the day (October 13th) as a result of terminal cancer. In losing Mads we lost a legendary collector, but more importantly, a legendary human being (anyone who has ever been in contact with him will know exactly what I mean by that).

Reggae Party 3 By Gallagh'

⁣Frinda di Lanco & Hendrik Stein from Berlin are pushing airwaves together since 2018. A DJ duo with a deep love for obscure vinyl records and a wild and vibrant mixture ranging from AOR, cosmic, italo, library and disco that never fails to surprise us with the unexpected. Together the couple is spreading joy on dance floors all over Europe. With 'Avec Plaisir' the two founded their own label imprint and re-released an enchanting collection of Austrian Cosmic tracks from the ’90s. We hope you enjoy this wonderful selection as much as we do.


Frinda & Hendrik on their mix : “After listening to the recording from lovely RIAA Bar in September, we decided to go for exactly the same vibe – since that night was special in many ways. It only happened because our gig at Pudel got cancelled due to a double-booking but we had our train tickets already. So instead of bringing a selection of Italian Disco and dance music to Hamburg, we focussed on those records which we usually play to close friends in a home-listening context and that have a certain place in our hearts. At this night we also met Andrea who was enjoying our selection a lot and asked us if we’d like to record this mix you’re just about to listen.“ 💫

First up is Christos Davidopoulos , the soul of the legendary independent Optimal record store in Munich where I bought my first TV Personalities 45  sometime in the early 80´s after a long ride with my tuned up Velo Solex,comin all the  way  from Augsburg town.
Christos is a living encyclopedia of music & subculture literature and the only collector of christmas records that I know, here in his little mixtape he showcases his love for Jamaican early soulful Reggae & Rocksteady 45s , with some late 70´s lovers thrown in for good measure.
This set was recorded at our Waxsafari spring edition record fair 3/2024 @ Perle.Munich.
