Then you understand how Smokey Robinson, Norman Whitfield or Holland-Dozier-Holland also had a huge impact on the Jamaican and British reggae production. Ah yes, I’ve maybe put too much of The Tempts, but hey I liked them a lot.

Welcome visitor to a brandnew edition of my Quiet Dawn mixtape series focusing on ...Folk Psych Funk.
As the 1960s melted into the ’70s in a colourful swirl of musical possibility, bands and singer-songwriters were experimenting with newfound freedoms. The psychedelic era had brought about many changes and much political upheaval in its wake. Discrete genres became fluid. Many acts fused different sounds together. Rock would meet jazz. Soul was mixed with psychedelia. In this fecund environment the nebulous yet highly prized form of folk funk emerged.

In what’s become a goldmine for crate-digging hip-hop and electronic music producers, keen to find an obscure and funky sample not yet rinsed out or carrying the threat of litigation, folk funk is a blend of acoustic guitars, looping repetitive grooves, jazz touches and full fat drum breaks.

You hear classics of the genre from Kenny Rankin or Terry Callier ,rare new discoveries by Quiet World or Kathi Smith and a killer new psychedelic take on the afro samba classic canto de lemanya.

welcome along to our Mixtape Paradiso advent calender für music lovers & vinyl dreams.
First up is Christos Davidopoulos , the soul of the legendary independent Optimal record store in Munich where I bought my first TV Personalities 45  sometime in the early 80´s after a long ride with my tuned up Velo Solex,comin all the  way  from Augsburg town.
Christos is a living encyclopedia of music & subculture literature and the only collector of christmas records that I know, here in his little mixtape he showcases his love for Jamaican early soulful Reggae & Rocksteady 45s , with some late 70´s lovers thrown in for good measure.
This set was recorded at our Waxsafari spring edition record fair 3/2024 @ Perle.Munich.

It´s the third day of december...& three is the magic number, right? 
Lights, camera, action for a true DJ underground heroe, Tyrolian native DJ Enne. I met him first on some Cosmic music events back in the 80´s where he was THE man & the connection to the Italian cosmic music scene , especially to a certain Mr Beppe Loda. Maybe he´s the uncrowned King of Libraries ? Who knows...? Anyhow, he definitly rules the discogs cosmos with with obscure playlists like " dancing naked in the snow music while St Claus is comin to town". Deep sh**!!!
