Souleance return with a brand new EP for First Word Records. Following the huge success of 'La Beat Tape' in early 2013, the French duo have been busy in the studio preparing a 6-tracker aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Souleance is the result of the partnership between producer Fulgeance (check his new LP 'Cubes') and DJ Soulist of legendary Paris event What The Funk. In 2008 they released their debut EP 'Le Monde' which along with follow up 'Le Plaisir' is one of First Word's all-time bestsellers. 2012 saw their debut LP 'La Belle Vie' released to widespread critical acclaim, winning them fans including Gilles Peterson, Lefto and Laurent Garnier. With an eye-catching live show now up and running (check their recent charismatic appearance on Boiler Room for evidence) Souleance are going from strength to strength.
The new EP is exactly what you'd expect from Souleance, taking in 80s influenced electro (Brotha, Broobecker & Vacances), audacious sample flips (Georgian Kiss), infectious-grooved hip hop (Mais Um) and up-tempo tropical beats (Tropicalidad). All six tracks are guaranteed club winners that only Souleance could deliver.

Kerbside Collection's debut jazz funk and rare groove LP „Mind the Curb“ (released May 2013 on Légère Recordings) gets the remix, rework and re-use treatment with a variety of re-interpretations from fellow Aussie and international friends with everything from dubby-pacific-nu disco, analogue breaks and beats to balearic Japanese nu jazz.

Brisbane beatsmith Blunted Stylus (Geoff Blunted/Jigzaw Geoff/Ex Resin Dogs) kicks off the release with a heavy low slung, analogue, jazzy, b-boy breakbeat remix of „Jelly Belly“. Another living legend of the Australian scene – Ennio Styles (Stylin' radio show/Melbourne) completely flips „Sweet like Nectar“ into an uptempo lo-fi, live disco- boogie, dancefloor shaker. Japanese Dj and producer Chikashi Nishiwaki continues his remix love affair with Aussie groups and delivers a balearic re-make of „41 Bernhard“, teaming up with some friends to create a beautiful crossover piece fusing nu jazz, bossa and breaks flavours.

Next up is another Aussie producer on the make - Billy Hoyle (Melbourne). He cooks up a smooth, jazzy, laid-back, melodic head nod hip hop rework of Red Stripe, chopping things up 'MPC/Boom Bap' style for fans of the true school, funky hip hop flavours. Renegades of Jazz hits us with the fat, b-boy breaks flavour on the remix of 'Cat Whip', complete with acid bass line, synths and congas for extra dancefloor pressure. Another legendary Brisbane Dj/MC/producer Two Dee, gives us his pacific flavoured, dubby, disco-house remix of „41 Bernhard“ – turning the rhodes into a skank rhythm sitting ontop of a shuffling disco beat - reflecting the warm, tropical, beach side atmosphere of the Australian Pacific Coast. The JNBO 'Gone Sour' rework of „Sweet Like Nectar“ is the mastermind of Henry Jenkins (bass player for college funk and soul sensations - The Cactus Channel and Karate Boogaloo/Hope Street Recordings Melbourne).

Kerbside Collection's drummer Paprika serves up two re-works. For the first one he re bumps „41 Bernhard“ into a more contemporary low slung hip hop/nu soul territory. The second remix (originally released as a bonus on the Mind the Curb disc) is a bossa re-bump of „Red Stripe“ – giving the reggae flavoured track a more swingin' jazzier sound.

A limited edition 12inch vinyl single with selected tracks from this digital release will be available in specialist shops.

Another living legend of the Australian scene – Ennio Styles (Stylin' radio show/Melbourne) completely flips 'Sweet like Nectar' into an uptempo lo-fi, live disco- boogie, dancefloor shaker complete with flute, extra keys, samples and horns (99% of the parts picked from Legere's back catalogue!). The track kicks off with a gritty live disco groove and re-appropriated guitar and bass licks from the original track, then some funky synth clav, gradually building as all the elements get added, before the soaring Brass section take you to the finish line. For fans of Cro Magnon and Todd Terje.

Ennio is a legendary tastemaker and DJ, not only in his home city and country of Melbourne/ Australia, but also worldwide – with his reputable, regular chart (back in the day) for legendary Straight No Chaser magazine, remixes on labels such as Raw Fusion, Irma, Compost and Far Out recordings, comps such as the ground breaking 'Other Worldly Fusions' CD (alongside fellow DJ and enthusiast Kano/Red Bull Music Academy), and his long running radio show on one of Australia's biggest community radio stations (3RRR) clocking up over 600 episodes – uncovering talented musicians, bedroom beatsmiths and independent releases attracting worldwide support from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Mad Mats. www.soundcloud.com/enniostyles <http://www.soundcloud.com/enniostyles>

Following on from the success of their debut LP 'La Belle Vie' from earlier this year, the French duo have been busy in the studio producing La Beat Tape. 20 tracks deep, the release is aimed squarely at the DJs, with a succession of guaranteed party-starters. This is rounded out with some typically quirky interludes, jazzy beat excursions and blissed out trip hop.
Souleance are producer Fulgeance (Musique Large / One Handed Music) and DJ Soulist (What The Funk Paris?). Since releasing their debut EP (Le Monde) back in 2009, they have built a solid reputation for their idiosyncratic take on modern beats. With fans including Gilles Peterson, Danny Breaks, Lefto and Mr Thing, their debut album was the culmination of 3 years of beat-making, touring, partying and drinking too much Pimms. Whilst other producers would rest on their laurels after releasing their debut, Souleance got straight back into the studio to produce La Beat Tape - their sole aim to create tracks that they would DJ with themselves. The result is 20 tracks of pure dancefloor fire peppered with a smattering of chilled, lounge tracks in classic Souleance style.
Like any classic beat tape, variety is the key, and Souleance do not disappoint. La Beat Tape takes in heavy Turkish breaks (Sauce Samourai), Hammond funk (L'insouleance), tripped out western cinematics (Tout Doux), brooding jazz (Kipseli Street Interlude), Shadow-esque breaks (Strongest Love), Just Blaze-style horn-heavy hip hop (Como Estan Bitches), 80s synth-hop (Cocktail Time) and much much more.
The release is available as a budget-priced download with a limited edition 7" containing four tracks that we feel will be most useful for the DJs. With artwork by long-term collaborator Alice Dufay, it's sure to join their previous vinyl releases as a genuine collectors item.
