"I wanted this mix to be equally suitable for raving and for a deep-listening session. It represents how i like to play for the dance-floor : angular, twisted, 3-dimensional and sexy. I included a couple of tracks of mine, a few of them are unreleased yet.
Some others by undeniable legends, some by emerging talented producers.
There’s also a track by Gigi FM, with whom I’ll play B2B at Awakenings... Very much looking forward to that weekend.

From his early releases on the legendary german imprint raster-noton, to his more recent output aimed at the club, Kangding Ray managed to trace a singular trajectory, navigating the unexplored territories between experimental and dance music.
Through his consistency as live performer and DJ, and with a number of critically acclaimed releases under his belt, Kangding Ray showed his ability to keep a genuine artistic approach, while slowly crafting an unique universe, equally focused on emotional response and visceral impact. 
Kangding Ray’s music tests boundaries, evolving constantly in its exploration of texture and rhythms, while talking equally to the body and the mind. From his past as architect, Kangding Ray kept a multidisciplinary approach to art, applying his craft in diverse artistic fields  such as visual arts, film scores, audiovisual installations and dance performances.

Kicking off full speed comes an hour of untrammelled techno from Belgian artist Phara. The Fuse Brussels resident has racked up quite a following with his club focused sound, both via slick releases as much as behind decks spinning vinyl-only sets. Post-punk, wave, EBM, electro, Detroit and Berlin provide the context for a curious talent that has published warped melodies on blue chip labels like Soma, SK Eleven, Stockholm LTD and Planet Rhythm. His off kilter earmark is available too via his ‘gimmick-free’ record label Phaaar, a more immediate and personal vessel for his own experiments in sound. And it’s not all off the shelf, 2022 saw him take his Korg EMX-1 onstage for a debut live performance that presents yet another side to his many-layered craft, and a new alias titled In Glass promises to reimagine both house and dubbier references. With bated breath comes this next instalment, powerful beats from the get go, tracks with striking forward momentum interwoven with atomic precision and a primary feeling for ambiance that doesn’t miss a trick. Phara taps a wealth of experience and knowledge of records for Bassiani Podcast 222, shadowy frequencies and volative basslines, everything you love about techno brought together by this prolific and multifaceted artist.

Denise Rabe´s experience in the Berlin techno scene as a booker, radio host, promoter and dj since she relocated to German capital drawn by the possibility of a life in music, is reflected in the pragmatic, grounded artist she became and the unique, original voice she’s developed as a producer.

Her approach and work ethic can be seen expressed on every release she’s done under her label, Rabe, where her music is matched with an equal amount of care, thought and work, in the vessels that contain it, within a coherent aesthetic and vision that informs music, artwork and presentation equally.

This has allowed her to recruit the artist who´s work resonates with her sensibility and can be heard in the remixes Rrose, Shxcxchcxsh, Headless Horseman, among others, have done for her releases on her and other labels.

Imprints such as Mutewax, who released her first 12’’ in 2015, ARTS where she quickly became one of the label´s staples and Stroboscopic Artifacts where she published ‘’Manifesto’’ in 2019, are clear reference points that describe her career and its development. 

Rabe’s particular inclination to sparse industrial soundscapes, gothic aesthetics, driven grooves under hooks that hypnotize as much as they distinguish, have propelled her 10 year career across stages all over the US, Asia and Europe, as well as the clubs that represent the apex of techno world wide such as Berghain and Tresor.

We're delighted to present you the 4th podcast of our yearly summer series, with Mareena in the mix for this week!

Mareena is an artist on the rise, but present in the techno scene for a long time! Musically spoken, her roots branch deep into the spirit and sound of dub techno and pre and early 2000s techno productions. Adding to this foundation, Mareena has developed a statement sound over the years characterized by rhythmic, lively, and non-linear beats that create an unrelenting flow of energy on the dancefloor. This foundation has earned a long-standing residency (since 2012) in the techno institution Tresor, which stands for a similar ethos. Authentic, but always evolving.

Her ability to include hard and elegant elements into her vinyl-oriented sets has led her to play at multiple venues and parties across the globe such as Berghain, Faust (Seoul) and our very own Frenzy editions, where she will be part of again on September 14!

"They were wild and crazy years." The Spanish techno icon discusses his early years in Madrid, running record labels and staying true to his sound for more than 30 years.

Spanish DJ and producer Oscar Mulero is a legend of underground techno. Since starting to play parties and make music more than 30 years ago, he's earned a reputation as an anti-conformist tastemaker who's adamantly stuck to his guns. While his trajectory began with Madrid's goth and punk clubs in the '90s, he eventually found techno in the early '00s and started two labels, PoleGroup and Warm Up, as homes for the hypnotic, spaced-out sound that's become his signature. 

In this RA Exchange, Mulero reflects on the early days of the Spanish techno scene and how it's evolved, as well as his own roots and influences. Today, the artist is as active as he's ever been, he discusses how he's maintained longevity as an artist in the face of changing trend, as well as his best practices for making music at home and on the road.
