◾How did you come up with your dj name: It was given to me - because if you know me, I’m almost always the voice of reason, I’m very methodical and intentional in everything I do

◾How and when did you get into djing: been DJing for 3 years now, have been into various forms of electronic music and into playing various instruments (piano, saxophone, bass guitar, etc) since a young age. Finally just decided with all this music knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years it was time to put it to work and electronic music seemed like a great avenue to have a creative release

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: biggest influences from house/techno would be Carl Craig, Robert Hood/Floorplan, Skream, Metodi Hristov, Skream, Basement Jaxx, Maceo Plex, Detroit Swindle, Derrick Carter

Outside house/techno: John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, phish, Grateful Dead, Keller Williams, Rolling Stones, Prince, Mars Volta

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: I would say I’m a concoction of jazzy/instrumental Detroit techno like Carl Craig, heavy minimal like Robert Hood, soulful techno like Floorplan, disco house like Detroit swindle, hypnotic raw techno like John Digweed, and groovy house/techno like anything you’d hear from early Tronic/Truesoul/Suara/Kraftek/Respekt releases from 5+ years ago

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: in the studio working on some of my first tracks, I’d like to be a staple in the Detroit minimal/jazzy techno sound as jazz sounds are my favorite sounds in electronic music
Oh inspiration - I just want to show ppl music they may not have ever heard before. I always say - the mark of a good DJ is they play songs you want to hear - the mark of a great DJ is they play songs you didn’t know you wanted to hear. So I find satisfaction in knowing that I dug deep to find the tracks I play out and appreciate those artists less well known and try to give them a voice. I also just get satisfaction in seeing ppl really enjoying themselves to the music. I’m not in it for show or hand gestures - I’m just there for the music!

◾How did you come up with your dj name: Is actually my real name, Maria Serena and i think there is an harmony to it.

◾How and when did you get into djing: When i was living in Buzios, Brasil i met a friend that was a dj and he helped me download Traktor for my computer and after that i just couldn't stop inquiring more and wanting to learn more, and i started practicing and getting my own tracks until i finally got my own first controller and started practicing, it has been 6 years since then.

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: Mostly Romanian Djs, minimal house and their way to perceive music and mixes inspires me, wanting to sound like that some day.

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: I am very versatile, i can change styles but i always have my signature minimalistic sound, melodic and minimalistic. 

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: Hopefully i can release my own music some day.

◾Real Name: Claudiu Nedelea

◾How did you come up with your dj name: a while back I made a drawing for a tattoo/ logo that i now have on my leg. The result resembled a geometric claw so that’s where Klaws came about…

◾How and when did you get into djing: 
When I was living in Charleston SC for college more than 15 years ago, a friend of mine from Morocco, Gadi bought some dj equipment and started organizing cool little house parties, which made me wander how the music that I had would fit together. I was immediately hooked and gave it a shot. After that I started playing at parties and clubs in Charleston as well as back in Romania and France for some time before moving to Greenville.    

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: My inspirations and influences come from many diverse Places such as Romanian breakbeat artists Suie Paparude, all the Detroit techno wizards or some of the earlier Paul Ritch sounds. Not to forget jazz, dub or funk classics. 

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: a blend of dubbed out minimal, deep techno grooves, and a sprinkle of ChicAgo house wrapped together in a funky mixture with lots of dub vibes. According to the settings I play in, I like to keep it deep, spacey, and with a driving groove. 

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: looking forward to an original Klaws release for Pure Perception Records coming up soon, and planning an amazing 48+ hours of music & vibes at Pangea festival - June 10 to 12. More musical collaborations and shows to be announced..😉.

Frequency Underground | Episode 118 | Klaws [minimal techno]

Klaws live mix recorded at the DOB Exploration party this past March. 

Had a blast building sounds from the ground up and taking the listeners & dancers on a musical journey starting with dub and slowly building to minimal, house and techno towards the end of the set. 

Also very much enjoyed playing in this mix two Klaws original tracks, one already released and another one upcoming release on Pure Perception Records. Hope you enjoy the ride!

Summer Mix 2022

A brand new guest on the show is always a treat. Please welcome Travis Christian for his debut!! He brings 2 hours of house and techno full of grooves and moves that we just love to hear. 

Some words from the man himself:

"Lately I've been giving a good deal of thought to the concept of resonance. In the natural world we observe objects that resonate with particular frequencies. A certain length sound wave can cause the right crystal to vibrate, even sing. Tuning forks resonate our ear drums, or not, confirming that we can or cannot hear a particular frequency. The eqs and filters producer use on our tracks allow us to increase the resonance of particular frequencies within a synth note or sample. So when we say something resonates with us, what we really mean is that it connects to our frequency. It's on our wavelength. It matches our vibration. While no single track, song or sound could ever express who we are in total, an aesthetic, a "whole vibe" can.

Having just launched and started the process of building my own label Shadow Mined Recordings, I am very thankful to Aidan and Synthetiquette Radio for the opportunity to share the sound that represents my resonant frequency. For this mix, I wanted to put together a set of tracks, some older, some new, at least one that may never see the light of day, that reflect as closely as possible the aesthetic, the frequency that SMR is built on and continually aims for. It's a sound that resonates and reflects back to me parts of myself I perhaps would not have discovered in its absence. It describes who I am in a meaningful way where words fail. In a sense, I consider this vibe, this feeling, an introduction to who I am and what I'm about, not only musically, but at a deeper, unspoken level I am still, and always will be, in the process of discovering."

◾How did you come up with your dj name: Silent Duality emerged from studying the underlying architecture of the universe.  

◾How and when did you get into djing: After producing music for a few years, I realized I needed a way to showcase it, so I began DJing 8 years ago. 

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: 
Musical Influences range from  Pink Floyd, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, to Beethoven and Chopin to Deep Dish, Audiofly, Tale of Us, Acid Pauli and so many more. 

I’m deeply inspired by the processes of Nature and science. 

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: I’ve always had a hard time pin pointing this answer. It’s definitely rooted in House and Techno. But recently someone told me, Tribal Psychedelic Minimal Tech. I like it haha. 

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist:
I’m seeking to influence the philosophy of music through my art. Elevate to higher forms, the way we consume and understand music.
