Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Wednesday evening (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. This is our full inbox from the week beginning Mon 28th October 2024: from Friday afternoon you'll be able to hear our shortlist and pick your favourites on this week's Listening Post which will appear at freshonthenet.co.uk/batch547

If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. 

We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud Go tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks (and remixes of tracks) that have been previously submitted, and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Christmas songs and the like are also not eligible for the Listening Post, although we will collect these into a playlist that will be published on 24 December.

Rust & Bones – Fetchflix TV Series – Professor Peter Plum

Professor Peter Plum pretends to have a PhD in archeology from the University of OxDodge in Detroit. He worked few months at the Ashmolean Museum in OxFord before being fired for having his diploma forged from an unreal University. He was then employed by Boneman & Sacks Relic Asset Management Inc. as a relic expert to validate the truthfulness of the new artefacts and provide official artefact certificates. With the right incentive, Professor Plum could probably fabricate anything old and holly. The more he would fabricate and validate, the more money he would earn such that he could acquire an historical palace in Portugal to please his lovely wife named Plummy. One day he had the extravagant idea to have his wife, Plummy Plum, immortalized as a bronze sculpture well in view in his garden. The voluptuous body of his wife made a bold effect in his garden and a scandal in his neighborhood. Now that Dick Boneman revealed the fraud, Professor Peter Plum is at stakes and risk losing everything including his wife should there be a deep dive investigation on Boneman & Sacks business practices. Peter and Plummy are deeply in love and one could understand that Peter would be ready to do anything to protect his marriage.

‘Pieces of Me’ is the third single from Hands of the Heron's upcoming album ‘Quiet Light’ (out 22 Nov). Drawing on prog & psych influences, Claire Vine's beguiling voice is the central thread in a moody dreamscape of electric guitar, strings and haunting vocal harmonies. 

The single (and album) artwork was created by Bristol-based artist Ruby Geddes, who is also a songwriter & musician working with our DIY label Cuculi Records. Claire explains that she “began writing this song in 2017, before I really considered myself a songwriter. I’d been in Athens for nearly a year volunteering with asylum seekers and refugees. I was surrounded by a lot of trauma and felt compelled to help in any way I could, so I completely overworked myself until I was totally burnt out. When I came home I was exhausted, depressed and had taken on what I now know as secondary trauma. I didn’t have any language to express how I was feeling or understand how to make myself feel better. I didn’t feel like I deserved support as I had chosen to put myself in that situation. The song emerged from that place in lots of fragments - I thought they were all different songs, but Beth and Bec  helped me weave them together into a whole song.”

A low fuzz, a restless hum drifting closer/louder: South London-based artist/vocalist, Naima Adams returns with second single ‘Stay’, a dub-fused percussive soul collision and glimpse into the tussle of pursuing peace & connection whilst navigating the realities of city existence: a decades-long ‘holler’, a fading in slow motion. 

Written in collaboration with composer & producer Melo-Zed (Yazmin Lacey, CARI & ‘iwoyi: within the echo’, score/film commissioned for The British Library’s ‘Beyond The Bassline’ exhibition), ‘Stay’ wrestles with place & roots, answering calls from the unknown, set against the backdrop of a hostile environment, pervasive burnout and increasing insecurities.
