A metaphor for a date that you just want to end, or a relationship you need to get out of. We incorporated an out of tune piano to reflect the incompatibility of would-be lovers or quarrelling partners. 

Obscene Scenes

Old Times - George Bloomfield

This is a song about the Mountain Hare, found on the uplands of Scotland and known for changing its coat to match the seasons. In winter, it turns its summer coat of brown to white to camouflage against the snow and hide from predators. Due to the increasing effects of climate change and reduced snowfall, the Mountain Hare is off kilter with the seasons and left beaconed on the hillside, making it more susceptible to prey.

Lampin’ is the new album from electronic keys maestro ‘Synthonic’ – the alter-ego of jazz pianist and composer Kieron Garrett. A clasically-trained musician who has also been playing the tuba since the age of seven, Garrett is known for his innovative compositions and dexterity on keys. The Kieron Garrett Quartet (KGQ) consisting of bassist Mike Pratt, drummer Pete Cumber and leading saxophonist Dave O’Higgins, have also developed a strong reputation as incendiary players, sharing “a unity of purpose” (Jazzwise). 

Garrett himself has also shared the stage with many other notable musicians, including John Etheridge, Martin Shaw, Shez Raja and Tony Kofi, performing at some of the most prestigious venues in the country such as Ronnie Scotts, The 606 Club, The Jazz Cafe and The Royal Albert Hall. 

Now on a solo mission to showcase the more daring and progressive side of his creative talent, Kieron Garrett has channeled his passion for funk-fuelled synth into a recording that is overflowing with technical skill and good vibes. His undeniable prowess as a classically trained pianist and seasoned jazz keys player shine through in droves on this new work, which just as much highlights Kieron’s ear for a catchy riff, as it does his unique compositional abilities. Though very much rooted in classic funk, the Synthonic material contains sounds, melodies and themes that cover jazz, soul and electronica, coming together to form a unique aural experience. Garrett’s musical inspirations for Synthonic flow from a plethora of sources, from Chick Corea to Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter to Stevie Wonder.

The Lunar Keys are 4 anxious types from Guildford (UK) with too many tunes and nervous energy trapped in their psyches not to be in this band. The band perfected its line up in February 2020 and have had a blast ever since, honing their craft and building a dedicated following.
