After the success of his previous releases, Amsterdam based Joe Kickass (@joekickassmusic) sets out to create a worthy follow-up to his 'Mind Joe' legacy. It's been a long time coming but now his second full length album, ‘The Average Joe’ is finally here. Named in celebration of the millions of unique stories that make every individual the person they are, this record gives a little more insight into the man behind the mic. The past years leading up to this release have been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride, with a lot of things happening in Joe's personal as well as artistic life. All of the different resulting emotions and contemplations are reflected in the diversity and maturity of his sophomore LP.

Besides crafting his own beats, Joe enlisted a small army of talented musicians to contribute to this album. From the nu-soul sounds and vocals of Sacha Vee (@sacha-vee), via the dusty warmth of Vinyl Frontiers to the boombap vibes of Polish veterans O.S.T.R. and DJ Haem, just to name a few of the influences and collaborators on ‘The Average Joe’. In addition, with trustworthy partners in crime Killing Skills (@killingskills) as the executives, every track is produced into perfection. With this second LP, released on gold colored vinyl, Joe is taking Project: Mooncircle back to it’s legendary hip hop roots. The Average Joe kicks ass, indeed.

I was on the phone with my Mother one night and she was telling me that she needed some new music. My Mom has pretty good taste, so naturally I had to give her some good stuff.

I decided that I was going to make a beat for her instead (which sparked the idea for “Cardiology“). I ended up giving the beat to REKS for his “R.E.K.S.” record (it was supposed to be the final song on the album but due to studio session issues did not make it in time before the master needed to be submitted).

Turns out, without me knowing what REKS was writing about, the first verse of the song ended up being about his mother. Funny how music can sometimes be a literal translation.”

He has one of the most refreshing production styles. At the moment he is working on a collaboration with Evil Needle and is also working on his solo EP that is scheduled to release early 2013 on Soulection. Please pay attention.

Here are some words from the man himself:

"What's up people, my name is Sivey, I'm a producer/remixer/beatmaker from the UK. The idea to remix "Pink Matter" came to me before I'd even finished listening to the original track for the first time. The bluesy, melancholic chords were screaming at me to throw some synths on them and see what happened. Originally I had planned to make an instrumental edit, just looping the intro riff as a sample, but as the original track is quite minimal I tried applying my parts over the whole song which worked surprisingly well. Arranging my production around the vocals resulted in a gradual "slow-burn" build-up that hopefully reflects the growing intensity of the original piece. I hope you enjoy the track."
