Happy new year and welcome to 2024! Bright Patterns welcomes Garçon from Switzerland for this new chapter of the show. He’s a resident at Elysia in Basel and co-runs Amenthia Recordings with Agonis. More often than not, we have the pleasure of hearing his deep cerebral explorations of rhythm, building sets and mixes with thoughtful intention for the dance floor. While I and many others enjoy these recordings again and again, he presents a softer side here that’s equally as brilliant. “I wanted to play music i'd like to listen to in the morning or stay in bed to” he added. Next up in our mix series is our good friend and collaborator from Amsterdam, Brent Jacko. As co-founder of Minimal Collective, he’s exploring the transversal relation between music and other artistic disciplines  - an overarching view he’s translating throughout his sonic body of work. He has been playing at places like De School, Ratherlost, and minutiae festival, where performances ranged from sitdown to dancefloor. With a blend of stipped-back textures, haunting atmospheres, and unexpected turns, he aims to sculpt thought-provoking landscapes to be absorbed and revisited. 

Embark on a journey as Brent delves into captivating hypnotic atmospheres of metallic artefacts and brooding organisms, meticulously crafting a mix that gradually escalates tension with each passing moment. Through a fusion of mind-tickling ambient and heady techno, while exploring the field between stillness and movement in a sluggish suspension, Brent skillfully guides you from deep states of contemplation to vibrant intensity - all achieved through a profound sense of hypnosis.

Paris-based bass devotee @beatricemasters lures us across a tightrope walk of a mix

"This mix is a recording from La Machine du Moulin Rouge in Paris for Positive Education Festival's event in January 2024. I was opening for Flowdan, Toma Kami and Bianca Oblivion, and was never happier to be doing a warmup, as the festival's crowd is super open to more experimental music. Therefore, I felt free to explore my favourite mood which resembles me the most: building a narrative from about 120 BPM to 140 BPM, navigating between psychedelic, syncopated techno and minimal deep dubstep. At the peak of the set, when the room started to full up, I deliberately took the energy down a notch with heavy contemplative dubs. The set felt like walking on a tightrope, balancing intensity and murkiness, bass and techno, playing with tension. It was one of the best times I ever had DJing."

Repping an oft overlooked Swiss techno contingent comes the next guest in Bassiani’s podcast series. Basel born and raised Garçon is one of the most promising names to call the bucolic town on the shores of the Rhine his home. He got an early start, mixing from the age of 14 and booked a mere two years later, assiduously cobbling together influences in his early work and soon delivering performances city-wide. First those at Hinterhof (now closed) and then those at local staple Elysia. With musical collaborator Agonis he’s also fired up techno label Amenthia Recordings, an agar dish for like-minded Basel music makers. His own sonic experiments are a purely live affair, and that’s no bad thing. Garçon’s escapades, from Waking Life to Barcelona’s Parallel have honed his voice and made of him an adept hand when faced with the strenuous demands of modulating crowd energy. Nodding to a range of influences across the electronic map he harbours a superlative talent for finding niche sounds at the fringes of common scope. Enter Podcast 208: towering, no-bullshit sounds, an hour of ghostly, mechanical whispers and powerful basslines, earth-shaking and infinitesimally precise techno from this connoisseur selector.
