Benedikt Frey (@freybenedikt) has been on a journey of musical adventure and exploration over the last 15 years. He has made everything from deepest house to bottomless dub, UK jungle to irresistible edits of Notorious BIG. Those early forays came on labels like Nous'klaer Audio and Hivern Discs but in the years since the German has looked more to industrial and post-punk for inspiration. His Fastlane album on ESP Institute this summer blended those vibes with his own take on techno and resulted in his most accomplished and singular work yet. 

Now, the Lopasura label head steps up with an extra special two-hour mix that peers into the farthest corners of his sound. It is the sort of all-consuming trip that plays out like a mind movie as it works through serval different chapters - some heady and deep, some direct and unsettling, always with great control. Whether laying down electro, wave, techno or serious bass weight, Benedikt Frey is always taking you somewhere new.

Guillaume Souffrice est multi-instrumentiste, DJ et musicothérapeute clinicien. 
Il est un des membres fondateurs du groupe d’ethio-jazz Azmari avec qui il vient d’enregistrer un nouvel EP qui sortira en avril prochain sur Sdban record. Il est également membre du duo de musique gnawa Krima Niama et du trio de percussions Napalm Daf. Guitariste de formation, il apprend par la suite différents instruments traditionnels dans le cadre de plusieurs voyages aux longs cours (guembri au Maroc, daf au Kurdistan iranien et shehnai en Inde). Il mélange ces différentes influences dans un projet solo sous le pseudonyme Mosso Mosso. Derrière les platines, il aime emmener ses auditeurs dans des voyages mêlant world music, ambient et spiritual jazz. En tant que musicothérapeute, il est spécialiste du concept d’alliance thérapeutique en cancérologie.

In fact, Compost is known worldwide for being the pioneer of the future jazz genre. The very successful and highly acclaimed compilation-series like "Future Sounds Of Jazz", "Glücklich", "Elaste" or "Party Keller" are still timeless highlights.

For the 20 years anniversary we published a book - five years later, we put the music into focus even more again: The idea was to ask esteemed artists to reinterpret their favorite Compost tunes. So we are excited about getting both talented young artists and many of our all-time favorite producers involved in this project. Alongside the remixes and sold out vinyl label-classics, there are a few exclusive tracks in this strongly limited, hand numbered 10x12'' box. In addition, you can explore the impressive label history and background stories in the liner notes written by Michael Reinboth himself. Ben Weiss & Saull are two emergent DJs, working as producers, their first EP was released in 2016 and immediately noticed with tracks played at Circoloco DC10, Ibiza. They played with Black Coffee at VOID Mykonos, alongside Patrick Topping and Neverdogs for the Gia Sai x Kaluki Party and at Insomnia before Apollonia in a warehouse party. In 2016 they became part of the Gia Sai Agency  and played with Serge Devant, Richy Ahmed, Djebali, Damian Lazarus, Joris Voorn and Shaun Reeves. Much more to come !

Besides yielding some iconic tracks over the years as Ivan Smagghe or as part of accomplished collaborations - Smagghe & Cross, It’s a Fine Line, RMVN, Black Strobe, to name a few, Smagghe has made a name for himself as a very fine digger and innovative selector, setting a wide spectrum of moods in venues worldwide.  For the 95th edition of TTA’s art:cast series, Ivan takes listeners far out on a trippy ride with seductive beats, industrial groove and electro genre-bending  - a ticket to a no frills warehouse rave (of your dreams) at ungodly hours. Benedikt Frey is many. Or just one? He is a composer. An arranger. A DJ. A Liveact. A ghost producer. A fan. He also plays in bands like INIT, or Dolphins or KEYS +++ produced the last two albums for Chris Imler. Downbeat in experimental dub zones. The goat for Edits and remixes. When house was his nation, he used to listen to pen names like Suedmilch or Venedikt Reyf. He still likes the music formed under their umbrella, but today his tomorrow is not echoed in yesterday. His sound signature moved on. Into the open. He founded labels like R.i.O. or Serious Trouble. 

He lives in Berlin. Physically. In mind Benedikt Frey is at many places. Traveling far thru his home studio that is a flat a studio a flat an instrument a record collection a flat a studio. Everywhere gear, vinyl, tapes, instruments, rooms for spontaneous sonic notions, these moments, when a sudden strike of stimulation falls. He is inspired a lot. For music to dance. Music for films. Music for live shows. Music for dancing glows. Techno, house, downbeat, ambient, jungle, electronics outside the norms. Those transportive ones. Jamming with others. Jamming with his mind. In Berlin Wedding, North of the town, where the lights dimmed low, neighbors share the flow, and a small river runs slow.  As a DJ he plays here, there, everywhere. Big clubs, small shacks, festivals, gatherings. From fast to 90 BPM - as he feels. 

For himself. For the crowd. In the spur. He still remembers his club kid days. Going to dance with friends. Down there in Offenbach. Doing the Robert Johnson. Collective emotions for a better tomorrow. These he still seeks. In his music. His shows. His collaborations. You can book him for a party. For enlightenment. For ecstasy or introspective perspectives. Dancing slow, whilst pirouetting a high-pitched show. 

Since more than a decade. His own music is out there, too. Bringing his spirits in sound. On his own labels. On international imprints like ESP Institute, Hivern Discs, Craigie Knowes, or Emotional Response. Solo works. Driving ones. Slow drills. Teased during his DJ dates around the planet. 

The music plays day and night. Inspiration comes. From a simple kick drum. A movie sequence. A bird on the sill. A picture, totally still. Can’t kick that feeling when it hits. Benedikt Frey. In dreams. In streams. In music. Emotions. Situations. At night. In those flashy lights, when it bites.
