Ransom Note Records are hyped to welcome the mighty Jezebell to fold for their debut EP with us, Weekend Machines! The London based duo have been a stalwart of the Italo Chug scene for some time, so we are over the moon the have snared their newest offerings for you. Backed up by South Korean up and coming cosmic hotshot, Shubostar, on remix duties, Darren and Jesse’s inaugural release on R$N is summer sunshine distilled. Break out the factor 50, because things are about to get hawt!

First up, the titular Weekend Machines launches itself from the traps. A medley of mechanical rhythms, metallic acid bass lines and sampled vocals, this is no doubt what our forthcoming AI automaton overlords will be listening to on repeat. And we, for one, praise them for it! All hail the AI.

Next up, Autostrada’s sequenced drum machines slap us around the face, like the bastard Lofi child of Mr Flagio, it is a pretty accurate audio approximation of what the 80’s was all about: synthesised arpeggios, 808 rims shots and futurism! Citric continues the retro aesthetic with some gorgeous guitar work and keyboard stabs, accompanied by the familiar automatic hi hat and hand clap percussion, this perfect slice of Machine-Funk will have even the most emotionless of automaton overlords shuffling on the spot in time to the inimitable rhythm.

Rounding off, Shubostar takes Weekend Machines on a cosmic journey to outer space. Pumping the Italo dial up to eleven, our girl from Berlin blasts off clutching an array of 80s synthesisers, deploying them on our journey across milky way as we’re sucked into the Disco Black Hole. Under the interplanetary glitter ball, creatures all creeds dance to the smooth sounds of Shubo’s monumental remix skills, as she delivers Eurobeat for the new millennium!

Kicking off with ultra-filtered kick-drums and electrifying arpeggio pulses, the track immerses the audience into a post-industrial reverie. It conjures a thunderstorm of shimmering snares, intricate synth-laden Eastern motifs and the ethereal incantations of Karina Jilaz, crafting an auditory experience that is both haunting and transcendent.

Machine Cult, the Amsterdam-based electronic music platform hosted by Déandrah and Garçon Taupe, returns with the release party for Edition Three at OT301 (Amsterdam) on 29th November.

Machine Cult’s upcoming edition will feature a V.A. compilation with tracks by Garçon Taupe (featuring Hunter Complex), Acidic Male, Loradeniz, Déandrah, and Son of Sesh. At the release party, each artist will perform a DJ set, except Déandrah, who will be creating live visuals throughout the night. Note that while Hunter Complex won’t be playing, Vergaarbak will be stepping in for a special b2b set with Garçon Taupe.

Expect a night of powerful electronic music and immersive visuals, celebrating the cutting edge of underground sounds.

Awesome Orientalists From Europa is an edits project dedicated to awesome music and new politics. Inspired by record labels and DJs that specialise in reissuing ‘world’ music, A.O.F.E. turns the tables on the perception of exoticism by rediscovering obscure and forgotten western dance floor tracks. The music published in the project fantasises about the foreign, tribal and oriental, but was in its whole created in the west, for the west. Benedikt Frey is many. Or just one? He is a composer. An arranger. A DJ. A Liveact. A ghost producer. A fan. He also plays in bands like INIT, or Dolphins or KEYS +++ produced the last two albums for Chris Imler. Downbeat in experimental dub zones. The goat for Edits and remixes. When house was his nation, he used to listen to pen names like Suedmilch or Venedikt Reyf. He still likes the music formed under their umbrella, but today his tomorrow is not echoed in yesterday. His sound signature moved on. Into the open. He founded labels like R.i.O. or Serious Trouble. 

He lives in Berlin. Physically. In mind Benedikt Frey is at many places. Traveling far thru his home studio that is a flat a studio a flat an instrument a record collection a flat a studio. Everywhere gear, vinyl, tapes, instruments, rooms for spontaneous sonic notions, these moments, when a sudden strike of stimulation falls. He is inspired a lot. For music to dance. Music for films. Music for live shows. Music for dancing glows. Techno, house, downbeat, ambient, jungle, electronics outside the norms. Those transportive ones. Jamming with others. Jamming with his mind. In Berlin Wedding, North of the town, where the lights dimmed low, neighbors share the flow, and a small river runs slow.  As a DJ he plays here, there, everywhere. Big clubs, small shacks, festivals, gatherings. From fast to 90 BPM - as he feels. 

For himself. For the crowd. In the spur. He still remembers his club kid days. Going to dance with friends. Down there in Offenbach. Doing the Robert Johnson. Collective emotions for a better tomorrow. These he still seeks. In his music. His shows. His collaborations. You can book him for a party. For enlightenment. For ecstasy or introspective perspectives. Dancing slow, whilst pirouetting a high-pitched show. 

Since more than a decade. His own music is out there, too. Bringing his spirits in sound. On his own labels. On international imprints like ESP Institute, Hivern Discs, Craigie Knowes, or Emotional Response. Solo works. Driving ones. Slow drills. Teased during his DJ dates around the planet. 

The music plays day and night. Inspiration comes. From a simple kick drum. A movie sequence. A bird on the sill. A picture, totally still. Can’t kick that feeling when it hits. Benedikt Frey. In dreams. In streams. In music. Emotions. Situations. At night. In those flashy lights, when it bites.
