Wellington-based FABU has become an established figure in New Zealand over the past year, with regular sets at Club 121 and festivals across the country. She has a penchant for heavy jams dripping with funk and soul, buoyed by percussive and swirling bass lines. We start the show with an hour of her sound.

To finish things off, we hear from Auckland composer, performer, and artist Flo Wilson. Alongside her immersive production work (check out her (Please) Keep Breathing EP), Flo has exhibited sound installations in the USA, Australia, and New Zealand. Flo has shared a mix that is dedicated to her dear friend Reuben Samuel Winter, which journeys from the concert hall to the club, and then back to the bush.

Flo Wilson is a composer, performer and sonic artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau/ Auckland, Aotearoa/ New Zealand. Her work ranges from constructing a performance, to exploring spatial sound across various mediums including within her production and in sound installations. She is known for creating music which uses multi-layered voices to interweave with field recordings, creating immersive, lush compositions. 

In particular she is curious about the relationships between people and technology; how technology can extend, reduce and manipulate our modes of being. She has exhibited sound installations in the USA, Australia and New Zealand, had her thesis published in the Australian Computer Music Conference and released her debut EP '(Please) Keep Breathing' in 2017. She holds a degree from the New Zealand School of Music, with first class honours in sonic arts. 

This mix is dedicated to Flo's dear friend, the late, great Reuben Samuel Winter (Totems, Milk) and journeys from the concert hall to the club, and then back to the bush.

Reversing the trans-Tasman trend, FABU jumped the ditch from Melbourne/Naarm to Wellington in 2017. In 2020, she made her debut as a DJ for Racquet Club. Since then, she has been a featured regular at Wellington’s favourite basement, Club 121, and has gone on to play for MIRO Gathering, Nest Fest, Club 121 x Department of the Arts ‘Burn Out Tour’, Low Strung and most recently Newtown Fest. For this episode, FABU delivers a selection of smoothed out funk and soul jams, accompanied with an array of percussive and swirling bass lines.
