On the A side, “Spanish Joint” remix was featured on Okayplayer,  HouseofDisco, BBC 1xtra, Soulection UK Boiler Room and played digitally by top DJ's when it dropped nearly a decade ago on Soundcloud. The b-side remix of Roberta’s cover gets a new dance floor treatment never been heard before. Both sides are dance floor sure shots.

In recent years Hiatus Kaiyote have gone from Down Under to somewhere near the stratosphere. After 2012’s ‘Tawk Tomahawk’ had drawn the attention of Europe and the US, the exciting Aussie quartet officially reached big deal status when Gilles Peterson bestowed upon them his coveted Breakthrough Act of the Year in 2013.
Fanclub membership from no less icons than Prince and Questlove would follow, and a Grammy nomination last year for ‘Breathing Underwater’ peaked their critically lauded Melbourne mix of soul, jazz and funk also found comfortable in the charts.
Said nomination was actually down in part to being an unabashed tribute to Stevie Wonder, with ‘Breathing Underwater’ seeing lead singer and Wonder disciple Nai Palm pay homage to the superstar.
Taking a short cut through the whole six degrees of separation equation, DJ Spinna, another conspicuous fan of the band and someone who knows a thing or two about Wonder, made sure the man himself got to hear the track, ahead of remixing the original and bringing close a dancefloor from far far away.
Spinna’s own take on cosmic disco is all in a day’s work for a producer who time and again shows ease of transition between hip-hop, soul, groove, disco, funk and all in between. A mixture of warmth and fragility, across both vocal and instrumental versions, continues the band’s starry ascent.
