In the third episode of YNTHT Live we visited Norway and Oslo's Urban Sound Studios where native disco-pop wonders hubbabubbaklubb recorded the brand new track "Virkelighet" exclusively for us. Oh, and as usual it was all performed live in a silent disco kind of way as the audience were only able to hear the music with headphones on their heads. But hey, let's just remove the "silent" in silent disco shall we?!

People were saying that Norwegian fjordmakossa had died and gone sterile. But the late, great ethnomusicologist and folklorist Alan Lomax begged to differ. In his famous field study report on the subject he wrote:” After days with nothing other to show for than wet clothes and an itchy crotch, I heard a sound echoing from the hills. It sounded like a herd of drunken zebras, or was it a cross between a flamenco and a monkey (a Fonkey?).  I later discovered this nocturnal specie to be the band hubbabubbaklubb. A magical lantern in an endangered genre we all knew and loved as fjordmakossa, with an extraordinary expression that have later allowed them to successfully populate a diverse range of habitats – from deserts to islands to tropical forests.”

Dear friends, Djs, Supporters of MCDE Recordings.
Its been four years since label co-founder Pablo Valentino became a daddy, and almost as old is the idea of him releasing a record on our imprint.
So what makes more sense than to dedicate this record to Hugo-João, his son?
On "My Son's Smile" we can hear a recording of Hugo-João's laughter over a mellow, summery house track that has been a big favorite of Danilo over the years.
With a little help from Lyon producer Patchworks, who played bass on the track, Valentino pulls off one of his most sophisticated productions yet.
GE-OLOGY, legendary Hip Hop and House producer from New York, flips it into a more of a peaktime thing, replacing the Fender Rhodes from the original with layers of thick synthesizer chords and a very vibrant, musical vibe reminiscent of his earlier release on Sound Signature.
"Atlantic’s Calling" is one of those signature, late night House tracks that Pablo Valentino has been championing both as a producer and Dj throughout the years.

Danilo and Pablo met in the late 90s through their mutual love for obscure Jazz, sampled based House and all things soulful, and 20 years later this sounds like the kind of track that sums it all up, a testament of their musical backbone. Pablo has, like his partner Danilo, started out producing Hip Hop instrumentals back in the 90s, and he continues to do so up until this day. While "Good Ol' Days" is of course a Hommage to that era, it still sounds fresh to our ears.
At MCDE, we have always believed in this sound, the rough-and-ready, smoked-out esthetic of 90s sampler based music, and whether its Hip Hop, House, Techno or anything in between, we are proud to carry that Torch.

The shelf by the toilet in my childhood home is jam-packed with old memorabilia. And in between all the bits and bobs, I found the greatest objet d’art of them all: Hubbas soundtrack from the late, great film director Arild Kristos’ magnum opus, “Eddie & Suzanne” (1975). A classic, romantic Shakespearean road movie.

One of those who really hated the film, and who should therefore be listened to is the renowned late film critique Pål Bang Hansen. He wrote:

“Arild Kristo wants you to think that lust is all-consuming love, when really it's just endorphins. What makes things even worse is what must be one of the most gloopy and phallic film scores in recent memory: hubbabubbaklubb’s “Eddie & Suzanne”, which seduces teenage girls into paroxysms of romantic grief… blæh!
