This is going to be my work soundtrack for today. :)

Spektakel EP comes with four assorted, yet unified tracks of mischievous and sly techno. Herman opens the release with jacking rhythms, driving hi-hat patterns and a shifty synth riff. The jacking characteristics are also present in Tittut, a somewhat more minimal track with slippery grooves. With Sista ordet, things takes a different direction, with it being based on a dirty stab sequence with vocal hooks, as well as classic dirty machine funk with layers of hi-hats. Rackartyg closes the EP with a rise in tempo, classic drum machine sounds and a hectic cunning synth sequence. Sly & shifty, you may rely on us..

Vancouver-based Trevor Jacobson and Tanya Goehring are The Automatic Message. Partners in work and in life, they have built a strong portfolio of abstract, dark and tension-building audiovisuals together. Since forming The Automatic Message in 2006, Trevor and Tanya have been producing avant-guard, off-kilter techno and supporting it with their own visual interpretations, which, in line with their music, creates a tremendous sense of unease and tension.

Their music ranges from gritty, glitchy experimental to hard, dark techno with slices of jazz-influenced percussion. They have worked closely with various labels, most notably From 0-1 (Seattle), Kalimari (Montreal), Monsieur Musique (Montreal), and UNOIKI (Berlin).

The Automatic Message’s intriguing videography and dark style of editing has caught the eye of some of the biggest names in the techno world. CLR label boss Chris Liebing brought them onboard to create, produce and direct four videos for the label’s release schedule with Black Asteroid’s “Engine 1”, Tommy Four Seven’s “G”, Drumcell's "Disturbance" and Drumcell's "Speak Silence". The videos they created for Tommy Four Seven and Drumcell were selected for screening at the Antimatter Festival in Victoria, BC in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Disturbance was also nominated for a 2014 Berlin Music Video Award. The music videos they create – whether for their own music or for other artists – explore themes of isolation and impending emotional and global collapse amidst surreal, dream-like psychological landscapes. They investigate these themes through peculiar and disconcerting character portraits.

Blending these two art forms, The Automatic Message melds their auditory and visual works to create unique live performances. They juxtapose the different characters that appear in their videos to tell new narratives. Their live performances are often described as cinematic, emotional, dark and thought provoking. The Automatic Message debuted live at the 2008 New Forms Festival in Vancouver, BC, and has since performed across North America at various events and festivals in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Montreal. They made their European debut at Berghain's Klubnacht in July 2013. Their trip to Berlin was made possible by the Canada Council for the Arts Music Travel Grant Program.

In both 2011 and 2012, The Automatic Message received a Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Small Grants Project grant to curate an event showcasing local audiovisual acts and a short film festival called IN MEDIAS RES. In 2014, Trevor and Tanya launched RENDER: the 1st Annual Vancouver International Music Video Festival. The call for submissions opened on June 2nd and the festival will premiere at the Vancity Theatre on November 7th, 2014.

Bristolian producer Decka is back on his Unterwegs Records imprint with three originals including a remix from PG TUNE boss Philipp Gorbachev.
First making noise in 2015 on Darwin’s Berlin label SPE:C with the 'Begyndelsen’ EP, Decka makes sound that journeys through bare-bones techno and bass, crafting hypnotic polyrhythmic patterns that look both to the big room industrial sound of the German Capital and the sub-low pressure rooted in his home city, Bristol. Decka’s Unterwegs imprint that he runs with The Lady Machine translates to ‘on the move’ correlating with the labels vision to expand upon the idea that music is forever changing, evolving into new territories. ‘Elimination Techniques’ sees Decka invite Russian producer Phillipp Gorbachev for a remix who is known for his flamboyant live sets and productions which can be found on labels such as Comeme and his own PG TUNE label.
‘Balancing Act’ begins proceedings with undulating toughness through beastly drums and shimmering bass growls before ‘Self Evasiveness’ offers up machine-like revolving synths and energising grooves that continue to drive throughout the duration.
On the flip, ‘Elimination Techniques’ lays focus on wavering modulations underneath surging dynamism keeping this peak-time cut flowing until Philipp Gorbachev’s VDNH remix of ‘Elimination Techniques’ moves into industrial territories featuring raw, throbbing kicks and whirling bleeps orbiting around growling synthesis fiercely rounding off this effervescent EP.
