Originally hailing from West London, AREEJ was surrounded by strong musical influences, with a Moroccan and Sudanese background, she was drawn into numerous worlds of art and culture. Her distinctive sultry, urban-led jazz tone was influenced by a melting pot of worldwide music, in particular, classical Arabic music. Her passionate love of performers such as Umm Kulthum, Nina Simone and Erykah Badu inflamed her song writing processes, as she learned to write honestly and vulnerably. AREEJ steps forth into 2024 with an intoxicating, unexpected eerie, yet refreshing sound, described as ‘Sade meets Portishead.

The Moroccan native's voice is remarkable, laced with a rich soulfulness and storytelling that gives her an in-depth width and depth to her artistry. ⁠Her sultry urban-led jazz blends with soulful R&B and her sole aim is to make music. With new singles on the way Areej is looking to carve out a lane of her own as she steps into 2024 as a new and evolved version of herself.
