A song I wrote during lockdown. This is just the demo version but felt compelled to share it with the world. I was feeling a lot at that time and writing was a way to help get all my emotions out. At first i was reluctant to share something that ultimately shows a very vulnerable part of myself. Sharing this song is a way of acknowledging we can get closer to accepting ourselves for all of who we are. Don’t be ashamed of who you are. All parts of us deserve love ❤️

There’s a glorious moment between receiving your final exam results and graduation. I remember those weeks as the sunniest, most carefree I have ever spent in Glasgow. Everytime I hear this Blue Nile song I’m reminded of days hanging out between the City Centre and the West End, barbecues, carry outs and late night sing-songs in tenement flats.

Catty describes the songs on Time Tells Me as her enquiry into materialism and the invasion of technology into all our lives. It’s not unusual for a singer-songwriter to question the state of the world today in their songs. What IS rare is to discover a young musician as prepared as she is to turn words into actions. Catty has lived with a tribe in Malaysia, walked across Northern India with 1000 nuns to raise awareness of and help educate people about the detrimental effects of plastic and pollution on our planet, worked on a farm in California for 2 years to learn skills for sustainable living, and most recently swam from Albania to Corfu to help raise funds for an orphanage.

So when she talks about the passion behind her writing, we know she’s not just paying lip service, and nor is she preaching. Instead she holds up a mirror and reflects, beautifully and poignantly, what many of us are thinking and feeling.

With roots in folk, country and blues, she grew up listening to the sounds of Neil Young, Donovan, Cat Stevens, Norah Joans, Eva Cassidy, Joan Armastrading, Bob Dylan, David Grey, Eddie Vedder, Moby and Leonard Cohen.

‘Time Tells Me’ will be released on Spotify and iTunes via AWAL. The EP features Ollie Clarke on the guitar, Evan Jenkins on drums, Lukas Drinkwater on the base and double base, Flora Curzon on the Violin, Nichol Thompson on the Trombone and Jansen Santana playing Percussion.

A great live act, their songs cover the political and historical as well as the more personal. Partners in life as well as music, Dave and Freya combine a love of the richness of traditional folk with their own original and powerful songwriting. Over 6 years of writing and performing together they have evolved a compelling live signature sound, blending their distinctive solo voices with concertina, harmonium, banjo, stomp box, acoustic guitar and dobro with their powerful close vocal harmonies. 

They have received plaudits from folk icons including Seth & Geoff Lakeman, Jon Boden, Rod Clements, Lankum, Declan Sinnott, BBC Introducing and have been endorsed by Seasalt Clothing. “The first verse is about when I went to Dachau, the concentration camp, and I remember how suburban and leafy and comfortably middle class it was… with the camp hidden behind some trees. I thought about how those people would've seen the trucks but never questioned it. The second verse is about the dictatorships that even we seem to be under now with Trump and our own Government and the fact Mugabe hung on so long and Gadaffi… and how they continued to get away with unbelievable atrocities - the rivers ran crimson - and still they weren't deposed.. With Trump and Johnson it's less obvious but it still feels like we're being destroyed by them. And the last verse is about the environment, the Extinction Rebellion protests, the overwhelming proof of global warming ignored by governments.

I’m not trying to be accusing but just feel we should be more aware, and we should find our voice and speak up, and take action where we can. And I question the fact a lot of people don't even use their vote"
