On their way from Roma to Brussels, Maurizio and Ugo AKA Front de Cadeaux (F2C) made a little stop in Paris to slow down the beat at Antinote.

We are thrilled to come back after a little break with the first EP from these two big boys on the label. For our first release of 2022 we offer the double smasher "Sad is Fashion" and "Trans Emois", two heavy and slow club weapons. These two rockets will please techno and trance heads as well as bass, dubstep lovers.

Antinote have been fans of F2C since their collaboration with Lexidisques in 2016 and of course their limited edition hit "La Ketamine” which was released 2 years laters by Emet.

Hope you'll enjoy the very simple style and straight to the point club music as much as we do as there is more to come from Front de Cadeaux on the label later this year.

Sometimes, looking back to the tracks that have been most inspirational yields very interesting results. In the last couple of years these four tracks stood out and share a deep sonic connection. All artists produced
music in the early/mid 80s, played in post-punk, experimental and EBM/industrial bands and transitioned naturally into the techno, ambient and trance sounds of the early 90s, while maintaining an elemental early 80s live feel in the process. It’s no coincidence that these tracks date back to 92-94, a time defined by rapid technological change and a major political landslide. The fall of the Berlin wall seemed to herald the dawn of a new era of peace and prosperity. The Cold War thawed, a sense of relief took hold, the West appeared victorious and the future looked bright. The emergence of rave culture seemed to embody this world of endless technological possibility and future optimism, techno-optimism indeed. Fast forward to 2019 and this optimism has obviously faded into oblivion, where the dream of universal freedom turned out be the empty promise of free market hypercapitalism beneficial to a small elite only. But thirty years ago rave culture was the product of that change and felt like a new home for those who discovered it. All these tracks are a precursor to sounds we hear today, an integral part of an ongoing cycle of trends where successive generations take over from previous ones. Rediscovery of that moment in time and sound is what Transition is all about, a collection of penultimate tracks that define that era.

For the 3rd instalment of Die Orangen’s Saft series on MT, we have invited dear friends Full Circle once again, this time remix- ing the track Krautback off DUO’s album Zwei Orangen.
Joakim & Alexis took a different turn from their proto-no-goa sound, with more than a nod to the late (and sadly missed) mr. Weatherall, and the result is a DUB.
Another duo we are huge fans of, Smagghe & Cross, took the song Zwei and reshaped it into a minimalistic psychedelic tonal symphony, echoing the original song's voices and fx.
On the B-side, after 3 years of working on it, we have finally brought together again the mighty duo Mungolian Jetset to re- work bits and pieces from the whole LP.
Its a midtempo cosmic disco/house banger that keeps on giving. a pure outdoor festival gem...
Last but not least, we are releasing as B2, for the first time on Vinyl, Die Orangen's collaboration with artist Eva Geist ( self-re- leased digitally earlier this year by the ginger boys themselves) ..... A perfect collaboration, bringing out the more sunny side of the D.O. duo......

The origins of Front de Cadeaux can be traced back to a dating site for bears, some ten years ago. After Maurizio had spotted a Felix Kubin poster on one of Ugo's pictures, the two started chatting. Very much intrigued, Ugo invited Maurizio, who lives in Brussels, to play at a festival he organised in Rome. Shortly thereafter Ugo made Maurizio a resident of his Subwoofer night, one of the first bear parties in Europa that existed outside of the mainstream bear realm.

The two bonded over food of course, over their belief that dance culture is rotting from the inside, and even more over slow, heavy electronic music. You have to picture it: a flat in Brussels, a table with empty bowls and bottles, thick smoke and these two daddy dj’s listening to stacks and stacks of UK rave and breakbeat records on 33 instead of 45 rpm. Testing how deep and sexy these garbage records sound at a pace the bears can actually follow without dropping dead – Ugo & Maurizio baptised it ‘supreme rallentato’.

During those early encounters, their decade long dj experience merged into one, just like their vision that dance culture urgently needs a revolution. To them that means playing 90 bpm in a club at 3am whilst the promoters are shitting themselves, showing everyone that the body follows the groove, and not the bpm, a capitalist and macho construct that’s making crowds go numb instead of making them dance.

Around 2013, they officially started collaborating as Front de Cadeaux, referring to the Italian way of pronouncing Front 242, the Belgian EBM legends. “Le pédé BPM” (the bpm gay), their first release, followed one year later, with a Fabrizio Mammerella remix that kind of became an anthem in some circles. It's at the same time a celebration of their love for a slower groove as it is a queer manifesto, dissociating themselves from the mainstream gay culture in big cities, dominated by a horrible attitude and bad taste both in music and style. Second single “Infodrogue” came about after the drug line Maurizio worked at, stopped operating after midnight. Backed up by a bubbling bassline, it's telling the sad tale of a junk calling in and no-one answering. The references to culture and real life are everywhere, be it in the track titles of later releases – “Ouvre ta bouche” is a joke about Kate Bush, “Cogitate” a hommage to lsd wizard John C. Lilly – or their sound, which is impregnated by psyche music, mushrooms, dub, triphop and space rock.
Coming hot on the heels of the collaboration ep with long time friend Fabrizio Mamarella earlier this year, featuring their two oldest singles appearing on vinyl for the first time, came Front de Cadeaux’ new 12” on EMET records. “We slowly rot” is a manifesto and an epistemological breakdown of standard, empty club music, for in order to reconnect with what it should be about, our whole idea of dance music has to be deconstructed. As Front de Cadeaux militantly puts it: “every act of the human being is about transformation through destruction”.
