Winding its way through my cerebral cortex, this series of repeated riffs has embedded itself as an earworm to end all earworms. Hoping to expurgate this phenomenon I must release this track before I wake up whistling its tunes once more.

Night by Night

“Mr Chappell’s Garden” is a small, perfectly-formed piece of pastoral elegy disguised as a children’s memory. It is tender without being sentimental, precise without being cold, and quietly devastating in its final turn. Colin Holt has written what feels like a classic English folk-ballad in miniature: understated, rhythmic, and carrying a deep emotional payload that only reveals itself on the last line.
The song works because it trusts the power of concrete imagery and lets the emotion arrive unannounced. It never begs for tears; it simply places the evidence in front of you and walks away.       Folk 2025

 I think she did a wonderful job, adding beautiful words and vocals and harmonies, creating a moody and sometimes haunting track.
