Very pleased to host a mix from legendary DJ Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy !

Originally from Massachusetts, she attended New York University where she was Program Director and a DJ at the university radio station WNYU.

Colleen has been a radio host, DJ and programme director since the age of fourteen and today hosts "Cosmodelica" and "Classic Album Sundays Worldwide" on Worldwide FM and "This Women’s Work" series for Public Radio International. Cosmodelica was selected by Time Out as one of the 10 best shows in London.

She is the writer and host of BBC 6 Music’s album series "Sounds of a City"and BBC Radio 4’s documentary series "Turntable Tales"]

Unfold Japan, a radio series she hosted for Worldwide FM and Asahi has been nominated for an ARIA Award in 2020 Audio and Radio Industry Awards for Best Branded Content.

As a DJ, Colleen was mentored by David Mancuso at his seminal Loft parties in New York City and became one of his most trusted friends and artistic collaborators. Together they co-produced the compilation series David Mancuso Presents The Loft Volumes One and Two, and worked together on David’s record label The Loft Audiophile Library of Music. In 2000, David told Time Out New York City “She is very devoted and very pure about the music. She’s one of the only people I would trust, both with the music and with the equipment, to fill in for me.” She was asked by David to help manage his legacy and continues to be one of the musical hosts at The Loft in NYC.

She is also the cofounder of the Lucky Cloud Loft parties in London which she co-founded with Mancuso and friends and DJs internationally on the world's best sound systems and dance floors.

In 2019, Colleen was nominated in the DJ Mag North America Hall of Fame and launched Love Dancin’ Sound System with Trojan Sound System's Daddy Ad at Gilles Peterson’s We Out Here Festival, sharing some of her musical and sonic passions to dancers outside of her existing communities.

As a producer, Colleen has remixed Roisin Murphy, The Rapture, Candi Staton, Phenomenal Handclap Band, Cantoma, Horace Andy or Chaka Khan & more under her Cosmodelica moniker and as DarkStarr Diskotek (with Ashley Beedle). Along with former Captain Beefheart guitarist Gary Lucas, she recorded and produced as Wild Rumpus.

She has also mixed her own compilations - New York Afterhours: A Later Shade of Deep(Nervous Records 1998), The Disco-Tech of DJ Cosmo (Yellow Productions 2003) and Psychedelic Disco-Tech: They Live by the Night as Darkstarr with Ashley Beedle.

Colleen's Classic Album Sundays platform tells the stories behind the albums that have shaped our culture and in some cases, our lives. She founded it as a stance against the increasing devaluation of music and sound. What began as a passion project is now the world’s most popular album listening event with satellites in four continents and the website and social media channels host content on classic albums and artists such as interviews, videos, playlists and more. BBC Breakfast Television remarked, “Classic Album Sundays treat our best loved records like great symphonies.”

Colleen and Classic Album Sundays are one of the leading pioneers and inspirations behind the resurgence of vinyl, listening venues and high quality sound.

She has hosted events with talent such as Jarvis Cocker, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Jazzie B OBE (Soul II Soul), Sister Sledge, Lisa Stansfield, Thurston Moore and many more.

Ok, this is a special one we have been holding on to for over 10 years. Yes that's right this mix was recorded over ten years ago but only came out on Good Morning Tapes last year... Only a few people heard it before, can you believe it? 
Now things are coming even more Full Circle as it was aired live for the first time last week on Crimson's "Pink Eyed Blue" show on https://radiozora.fm/ I thought this was fitting as I will also be playing with him this summer at THE Ozora Festival! Those who know, know ;-)

The empty longings of nostalgia exist as a far cry behind taking from the past with a view to understanding a new place it might hold in the future. Now - with the 90’s revival in something of a full swing - Good Morning Tapes finally gets the chance to release a pivotal 10 year old mix that didn’t just ignite a curious wave of reflection and appropriation, it marked a culmination in the shifting sonic sands for its creator Mr. Alexis Le-Tan. His name needs little light trust upon it in these hallowed cosmic halls, with his enduring and ever present mixes being a staple for those that know. Back to Disco Valley is arguably his most important mix - it both recontextualised a dirty and forgotten sound of the past, and facilitated a wave of new freedoms for those wishing to look backwards in order to move forwards. Most importantly it planted the seed for everything Full Circle to come.

Back to Disco Valley is above all else a personal reckoning for Alexis and Joakim, it marked a moment when many problems inherent in a trapped older sound - with a sublime yet dated history of its own - could breath fresh life in the present day; a new slower realm was born. The slowing down of dance music is nothing new, and certainly where peak time beats have existed a spiritual shadow that revels in a slower ethereal space to dance has never been far away. Stylistically on one level, Back to Disco Valley might seem to build on what Baldelli or Loda were doing many years ago, and it certainly has that effortless charm, but it goes much further, not just in its re-appraisal of the frenetic fast paced sounds of Goa, but as a signifier of where many wanted to head on the dancefloor - towards a slower oasis - incorporating new releases and modern sounding rarities along the way. Indeed, in selecting the 33rpm dial rather than that marked 45, Full Circle at once opened up the new space inside a music some of us went bananas to 30 years ago, and at the same time made sense of a crucial yet forgotten heritage; a confession became a badge of honour.

Coming back to Full Circle and its genesis: it was only a matter of time before the old Goa records would come back down from the racks and spawn a new life, and perhaps whilst Le-Tan cemented something a lot of us knew, Disco Valley somehow liberated many of those early records from their stylistic shackles initiating a creative project that - along side the collaborative work with Joakim - has released a wave of inspirational edits and re-imaginations. Full Circle - in all its conceptual & metaphorical majesty - really has come to represent the most stylish of takes on past sounds, both in the realm of selection and re-working. It is certainly true that Back to Disco Valley - sounding now as it did then (to the select tuned ears that got to listen) - reflects a perfect meeting between an off-tempo past, present and future, being more than a functional assemblage, it revives many a lost memories, inspiring a new batch of ideas. There is nothing wrong with looking back, as long as it has a purpose.

Next month we're opening a store in Cologne, which just so happens to be the hometown of our guest DJ, Marcus Worgull (@marcusworgull). It's safe to say that Worgull's work is very diverse: it ranges from the deepest house-cuts on Berlin's famous Innervisions label, to synth-heavy ambient productions as 'Vermont' (Marcus Worgull + Motor City Drum Ensemble). Oh, and let's not forget his brilliant remixes for The XX and Fink.

This guest mix features a selection of beautiful, melancholic tracks, put together in a story telling way.
