Stately and very pretty. Apparently, discovered  at Chichester Town Hall in a pile of old documents dating back to the mid- 1800s.  Thanks to Sandra Shallis for  showing me the proper speed at which to play this one.

A lovely polska from Hoven Droven, which I came across via a recording of Andy Cutting playing it. Played on my 2-voice (bandoneon-tuned) G/C instrument which I built with Emmanuel Pariselle. I recently revalved the lowest reeds to reduce valve noise when changing direction a lot, which seems to have helped.

Årepolska

Aosta is deep in the Alps, the most rural and least populated region of Italy, but, bordering both France and Switzerland, is also a melting pot for cultural influences. It's no surprise that our Aostan friend Loran Otzer is drawn to rural musics, especially how they blend together various styles and influences. This is another treat from him, featuring Loran's amazing Alpine yodeling couched in his trademark catchy folk pop styling.

We were very excited to get to work on this one, and we tried to take the dense, folk-baroque production style that's worked well on his earlier tunes and make it denser and more baroque, including our debut use of (my daughter's pint size) cello.  As we were putting the finishing touches on it, my wife was watching Silicon Valley and the scene where Dinesh karaokes to Crispian St. Peters's 1966 hit 'Pied Piper' came on. That's pretty much the style we were aiming at and I probably hadn't heard that song since the 1980s, so I considered this a very good omen. He showed us where it's at, and we hope you agree.

Thanks to Loran for bringing us another  song we love and letting us do crazy things to it.
