"Dug out from the nearly lost files of an "old, forgotten computer" are the nine tracks which make up the forthcoming mini-album from Applescal, From A to Sea. One of the tunes crafted by the Dutch producer between 2008 and 2012, "Screams" is a particularly lush and sprawling cut which would have felt right at home on Dreaming in Key, Applescal's most recent full-length effort released via his own Atomnation imprint earlier this year. The production presents its grainy textures, smoldering melodies, and other rich sonic layers atop an IDM-indebted shuffle, landing the track somewhere along the lines of a more stoney Clark or a subterranean M83 (during his instrumental days, of course). "While exploring new production techniques using old and unlikely hardware, the results were so unusual that I really had the sense that these pieces of equipment didn't actually create these sounds, rather they were in fact some kind of elaborate reception device that allowed me to tune into transmissions from Distant Galaxies. The music I could hear was actually the received transmissions of Pop Hits from those Distant Galaxies that were being played on their radio stations.
I quickly recorded all that I could before losing the transmission.

I consulted with Dr Andrew Read, the astrophysicist with whom I recorded Guitar Treatments in 1999. He has worked on the discovery of the most distant galaxies and astronomical objects in the Universe. Together we came up with a possible list of where these musical transmissions may have come from."

For its fourth release, Harry Agius aka Midland's Graded label has signed its first new act in the form of Montreal-based Solitary Dancer. With ‘Desire & Apathy’ being instantly familiar to anyone who heard Midland's Essential Mix earlier this year— in which it subsequently proved to be a much asked about inclusion— this eponymously titled release marks the debut of Solitary Dancer, as well as Agius' second time stepping into the role of label A&R following Hubie Davidson's appearance on Graded's ‘Regraded' sub-label last year.

From the opening moments of the EP's title track it is apparent why Aguis welcomed this release to the label, with 'Desire & Apathy' highlighting Solitary Dancer's similarly shared talent for elegant, richly-sculpted sound design and a knack for propulsive club rhythms that eschew rigid 4x4 drum patterns. 'Desire & Apathy' takes a classic electro beat and through the use of elegaic pad washes and swells of sinister bass notes morphs it into persistently engaging shapes. 

The B-side's 'Paradise Found' is a suspenseful coralling of intriguing sonic elements, with its fractured beats combined with a cinematic sense of drama and melancholy that's brought to the fore on the beatless 'Rapture Version' which brings Solitary Dancer's first release to an impressive close.

Its been a whirlwind twelve months for our man Dan Pearce, aka. Eats Everything. Having exploded onto the scene with his mighty Pets release "Entrance Song", a track that went on to soundtrack the whole of the summer season and far beyond, the hungry Bristolian has gone on to become the most in demand DJ/Producer of the moment. 

Since the release of "Entrance Song", Eats' rumbling bottom end has seen him sitting pretty amongst the real movers and shakers. His commitment to releasing original material with just a core crew of labels impresses, with San Francisco's dirtybird and of course Pets now considering him as a key member of the families. 2012 kicked off with "Ignorance Is Bliss", his co-production with Claude VonStroke, opening dirtybird's super successful "Hatched" compilation and since then its been a musical snowball with Eats Everything remixes featuring on Leftroom, Hypercolour, Futureboogie and Classic Music Company. He also joined an exalted group of producers lending their remix talents to "Tapes & Money" the current single from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. 

A technically gifted DJ, Eats Everything has been showing off his skills each and every weekend since that first release. A debut live Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 was followed by a whistle-stop tour of the US earlier this spring, culminating in an exciting and successful Miami Music Week. A busy summer season awaits too, as he prepares to embark on his first full Ibizan stint, playing shows for All Gone Pete Tong and We Love... 

And so to the "Jagged Elbow" ep, the latest Pets Recordings offering from Eats Everything. Lead cut "Jagged Edge" sees him, by his own admission, stepping into slightly different territory. Fear not, the bass still rules, all be it in a more staccato fashion, but its an overall deeper vibe. Guitar licks and cinematic horn stabs work together with a double-barrelled vocal and monster breakdown to absolute perfection.
