The Quadrasphere 021 - Julius

The next mix in theQuadrasphere series comes from Dutch DJ and record collector - Julius. We have been aware of Julius' movements In the scene for a few years now with mixes across the big hitters of the podcast world. We were particularly impressed by his offering to our friends over at Stately Records, and so when offer the chance to release a mix of his we jumped.

Here are a few words from Julius - 

" This mix was recording last month during ADE, and contains a few records I bought at ‘Killacutz’. I wanted to make a recording that was quite easy-going but as the mix developed it ended up quite powerful. The mix is mostly vinyl only but doe contain a few digital tracks as well. It begins with some dubby tunes and moves into a few minimal tracks before ending with some beautiful Dub Techno. I tried to use a lot of tracks with heavy baselines and punchy kicks.  "

Rumble In The Jungle

The 2025 Turtle Unity Tour was inspired as a connector – a unifier.

5 ecstatic dances in Canada and 5 in the U.S.A. over one month – a living bridge between people and across land – a way to symbolize and actualize the unbroken bonds between all humans – always there to be remembered, harvested, and celebrated.

The TURTLE arrived with this vision (inspired by the unbroken land of "Turtle Island" -- the name given to North America by First Peoples). 

Turtle is a perfect symbol as the cold of winter descends. Just as Turtle withdraws into its shell for introspection, Ecstatic Dance invites us to go within, to rest, to reflect, and to re-emerge, anew, whole, ecstatic.

This is the dance of the Turtle.
The recipe for peace.

About this edit :
This edit evokes the sound of latino psych rock supplemented with heavy percussion and  güiro as the main invitation to dance and drink tequilas. It is a tropical remembrance to a timeless movie scene from the classic Quentin Tarantino film From “Dusk Till Dawn“ (1996)
Where Salma Hayek (also from Veracruz) performs an iconic dance with a Burmese Python around her neck. This scene can be many times imitated but never equalled. The origin of the film is a revolutionary mexican cult film named “Satánico Pandemónium, El Diablo Va a México“ (1973) by Gilberto Martínez Solares. Historic film that Tarantino loved since he worked at a Blockbuster and discovered the VHS. The film involved nuns, nudity and satanic thoughts against the church. It was considered an extremely difficult stunt for the producer to pull off at the time because of the morality, censorship, and the influence of religion in the state decisions.

About Sean Toja : 
Sean Toja, multi disciplinary artist from Veracruz, Mexico. Co founder of @bailehibrido. His remixes and DJ sets are limit-less regarding to generes and styles just as his psychedelic analog collage visuals. Sean experiments in music from sampling acoustic instruments like the traditional jarana in Son Jarocho to synthesizers and other electronic rhythms.

About Tito & Tarantula 
Latin rockers Tito & Tarantula comprised singer/guitarist Tito Larriva, previously best known for founding the seminal Los Angeles punk band the Plugz. Larriva was born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico but spent his early years living outside Fairbanks, Alaska; his family later relocated to El Paso, Texas, where he studied violin and flute as a member of his school orchestra. After high school he flirted with attending Yale University before landing in L.A. during the mid-'70s; there Larriva formed the Plugz, which in 1979 released their debut LP Electrify Me, the first album to emerge from the city's thriving punk scene. Shortly after scoring Alex Cox's 1984 cult classic Repo Man, the Plugz were rechristened the Cruzados, signing to Arista to release a self-titled 1985 LP; After Dark followed two years later, and the group disbanded in 1990. From there Larriva continued writing film music, also turning to acting; with guitarist Peter Atanasoff and a host of other L.A. session vets he eventually formed Tito & Tarantula, which quickly emerged as a major favorite on the local club scene. Among their most vocal supporters was filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who not only enlisted the group to contribute material to his movies Desperado and From Dusk till Dawn, but also found small roles for Larriva in both; Rodriguez additionally helped produce 1997's Tarantism, released on the band's own Cockroach label. Hungry Sally & Other Killer Lullabies followed in 1999.
