These are some of my (re-)edits of other people's tracks. I made them to mix into my own DJ sets, and for casual listening, just for fun.

When making an edit, I try not to make a song too boring. I can appreciate a good hypnotic groove, but I'm disappointed that so many DJs these days just extend the already-DJ-friendly parts with monotonous loops, removing the vocals, melody, and other dramatic elements to turn the song into a predictable, plodding, "tracky" number that's easy to mix into and out of a progressive house or disco set, but that's boring as heck to listen to. That said, I don't always succeed at avoiding this trap, myself.

This somewhat dissonant recording is based on a sustained F5+F6 tone. It was originally released in 1975 on the BBC/Pye LP The Radiophonic Workshop and reissued on the 2003 BBC/Rephlex 4×10" vinyl album Music from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, which is the source used in this 2012 edit by Full Brain. Both releases are long out-of-print. In this edit, the piece has been re-EQ'd, the ends faded, and a cacophonic series of crescendos removed with crossfading to hide the seams. Glynis Jones - Veils and Mirrors (Full Brain Edit)

This piece is based on the classic "Daisy Bell" melody (Harry Dacre, 1892) as reconstructed (I believe) by manipulating a tape recording of a bicycle bell. It was originally released in 1975 on the BBC/Pye LP The Radiophonic Workshop and reissued on the 2003 BBC/Rephlex 4×10" vinyl album Music from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, which is the source used in this 2012 edit by Full Brain. Both releases are long out-of-print. In this edit, several parts were removed (racecar noises, "bicycle crash", and 2nd bicycle-bell melody) and the remaining parts were resequenced, re-EQ'd, and time-stretched. The outro was overlaid with a slow reverse of intro, and delay and reverb effects were added throughout. If any copyright/licensing concerns, send me a private message.

Dick Mills - Crazy Dazy (Full Brain Edit)

Original released in 1989 on vinyl only, and never reissued. 2012 edit by Full Brain: removed sections which contained samples of "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)" by Melanie, which is a great song, but doesn't belong on top of "The Sun Rising"; applied reverb at one of the seams; and applied flanger, phaser & EQ to end.

The Beloved - The Sun Rising (Son of the Rising House) (Full Brain Edit)

One reason why ambient-techno of the early '90s ambient/techno releases stands out as having a strong sense of the quirkily creepy in its own particular way, is the way it uses contrasting samples of a child quaveringly saying, "We had a dream last night," followed by a rougher sample saying, "We had the same dream," giving a track like the Third planet an unsettling feeling. 

Weather it uses a good dancefloor sharpness to it even as or sneaky odd drones and samples through the mix, extraterrestrial themed, or SF samples from 2001, Blade runner, DJing this music will mostly, though, things continue on a deliciously unnerving pace throughout, gentle enough to go down easy but still just off enough to ensure you can't call this new age folderol for the rave generation.
