kwn has been on a generational run this year. for myself, as a production centered artist, to witness her output, creative process, and elevation has been very inspiring, even if that witnessing has been only thru these lit screens. i greatly enjoyed putting together this track. it's fun, in my opinion it's a fresh take and interpretation of what's absolutely a smash. looking forward to more pushing limits when it comes to fresh takes on old formulas

shoutout to Carmen Lundy for the sample. for the particular track i used, Patrice Rushen played they keys. unfortunately, as a lover of good music, i can't give you the name of the song. you'll have to find it yourself, but Miss Lundy's discography is so robust, you'll probably find another song to fall in love with.

WORST BEHAVIOR.

i made this track just fooling around with serato sample's stems feature. sometimes i'll just be posted up in ableton putting records into serato sample and just listen (in my mind, i imagine myself into a listening room). sometimes in that listening room, inspiration strikes. after a while i’d laid down the skeleton of the track which is “read your mind” by Avant over a random break. while imagining what record would pair well with this, i just listened to “say yes” by floetry’s acapella to catch Ms. Marsha Ambrosius’s vibe and i’d noticed something that had never stood out to me before, and it was so fucking genius to me haha. when she says “all you gotta do is say YES”, the “YES” is whispered!!!!!! i’d always imagined the note she sang there to be the same as the note she sang on “say”, but whole time, she WHISPERED IT. it was mind-blowing to me as someone who’s lived (and i mean lived) with this song for decades and never noticed it, but also as a musician and the way the music AROUND her voice supported my belief in that note existing. this just speaks to Marsha Ambrosius’s abilities in vocal performance in displaying control and energy. the arrangement of the song, the choice of tones and timbres, the way it was mixed. thank you Floetry. and thank you Beyoncé. thank you Avant.
