Guest Mix #03 TIANNA

Australian artist Sistym has a propensity for rumbling low-end soundscapes where the sub rattles your rib cage. Growing up in Perth, she discovered D&B through religiously buying releases from labels such as Hospital Records and Shogun Audio at the local music store. Quickly falling in love with the deeper side of the genre, this new fast paced hyperfocus led her to pick up DJing, eventually resulting in playing on lineups with Andy C, Break and Alix Perez amongst many more. 

Currently based in Melbourne, she is deeply involved in the city’s D&B community and is part of the roster for respected crew The Operatives. In 2023, she founded Midnight Request - an event brand focused on promoting local and international underground acts. 

Sistym’s fondness of moody atmospheres and textures in combination with technical drum breaks and rolling basslines won her a place in the 2023 Overview Music & Dynamics production mentorship. Her debut release Eyes Open / Fever Dream was signed to Brisbane's 8Ball Audio imprint in 2024, and there are more releases cooking in the pipeline ready to be unleashed.

Appearing at internationally renowned festivals such as Shambhala and Northern Bass as well as murking clubs across the UK and Europe, watch out for Sistym shelling down more dance floors around the globe soon.

Deep Liquid Drum & Bass Rollers #92

I’ve been listening to DnB since the early noughties (yes I am that old) - I started off listening to rock, then hard and industrial metal, and the super aggressive styles of neuro and techstep coming out at this time really appealed to me. The idea of listening with a longer attention span was also a revelation - not just 3, 4, or 5 minutes for a track, but really being taken on a journey for an hour (or more!)

I dabbled with DJing in my early days of being into DnB, but never had the time or money to really get into it - it was actually my son expressing an interest a few years ago (he was 8) that made me remember it was something I could get into again. Since then I’ve found some amazing online communities, made some great friends both online and in person, been lucky enough to have had several opportunities to play out live, and have joined up with several other local DJs to form the Burton Bass collective. We’ve been able to put on several nights in Burton and start a little grassroots scene, which has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

The mission of Full Spectrum really resonates with me - the rave scene has always been a place where acceptance and equality should come first, no matter who you are. As a DJ, it’s often too easy to just play the tunes and not pay much attention to the people behind them; taking the time to pay attention and showcase some of my favourite women and non-binary artists has been a real treat, so I’m really grateful to Full Spectrum for the opportunity!

Somewhere beyond the last rapids of the northern rivers, the goose-guides still cast light between worlds. On his new DEEPNAS release Geese, Malinoviy John turns that ancient flight into a trembling, bottom-heavy bassline.

A half-erased folk chant—sung in a vanishing Komi-Permyak dialect—rises through the mist of sub-frequencies. Sourced from a dusty field recording, stretched until every grain shows, the vocal splinters into syncopations like a wedge of geese cleaving the clouds. Each broken syllable dissolves inside a massive low end, making the air quiver like the hide of an old shamanic drum.

Threading above the abyss is the wooden umra flute: its icy whistle slashes the mix, flaring over metallic breaks the way an aurora flares above the dark tundra. Meanwhile the bass dives so deep it feels bottomless, dragging the echo of a primordial ocean—the one from which, legend says, the first birds surfaced with a single grain of earth on their beaks.

Geese is no mere collection of tracks. It’s a migration cycle where clubland’s undercurrent meets an archaic cosmos. Deep DnB becomes the tongue of ancient spirits, and every hi-hat spark recalls the wing-beat that once lifted a new world out of the void.

Step into the flight: let the bass steer you through the night, and trust the old northern song to point the way beyond the horizon.
