When It Comes

A creative departure from the bands signature sound, Only Feel It When I’m With You builds upon the new textures and sounds recently delivered with the surprise drop of Midnight and Under The Surface.

With a slower tempo and mesmerizing melody, the single features the hypnotic vocals of The Jezabels singer Hayley Mary who adds her uniquely melancholic voice to one of the most daringly beautiful tracks Baby Strange have released to date.

Speaking on the collaboration, Hayley says: “I met the Baby Strange lads at the Priory in Glasgow. Loved their vibe and and we hit it off straight away. There’s a great little rock scene bubbling in that city that I’ve missed while I’ve not been able to get there, so I’m incredibly stoked to be part of this track and stay connected with them in a musical way. It’s a killer and I look forward to coming and playing it live with them sometime in the near future. 

Adding to this, Johnny Madden says:  “This is one of the most exciting singles we’ve ever released as a band. Writing it took us completely out of our comfort zone and pushed us into a new territory as writers and players. 
We’ve never had a featured vocalist on a track before, but knew right away that it had to be Hayley. The song just lends itself perfectly to her vocal style.
We’ve known Hayley for a long time so being able to work together on this was so exciting”

The artwork and visuals connected to the single follow on the series of recent releases, exploring an alternative world that offers an insight into the bitter promises of late stage capitalism. Brought to life by Glasgow based Visual Animator ‘Bovine’ the artwork itself has become a talking point for fans and media who eagerly await the next instalment.

As well as the previous one, i wasn't able to finish this track as my apartment was burglarised on October 2020.
Around July 2020, i've randomly sent some music to a dear friend of mine: Simon Heah, because he wanted to hear it.
Here is what's left, as well as other lo-fi recordings that i will only share on Soundcloud.
The thieves stole my musical equipment, my computer and the usbs where i kept the projects at the time, gladly i was able to send some audio files to Simon.
There is no reason for me to holding on to it, so here it is...

Sprinkle was recorded mainly around March of 2020, in my home studio.

Back from the whirling vortex of the celestial mosh pit, it’s Fantastic Purple Spots, with their new single, “Flowerland,” the first bloom of a new bouquet of tunes from their forthcoming EP, “Spotsylvanian Lullabies.”

“Spotsylvanian Lullabies” will be the Spots second EP of 2024, both on Austin Town Hall Records. Their previous 5-song EP, “Vibrations Now,” (January 2024) was described by Post-Trash as “folk-ish dreamy psychedelia” informed by “oddball pop,” with “melodies that pop out of every corner,” and the “fuzzier elements of a band like Brian Jonestown Massacre” meet the “harmonies of bands like The Beach Boys and The Byrds.” A review in Rosy Overdrive noted the duo’s “Yo La Tengo-esque noise-pop” combined with a “looseness and irreverence to their songwriting” reminiscent of Flying Nun and K Records.  

The Spots first recording was a 10-song, eponymous DIY release (February 2022) displaying a range of themes and moods, from stomping Pink Fairies-esque protest (“Veterans of Future Wars”), to absurdist pop climate narratives (“Blasting into the Sun,” “Homo Sapien Times,” “Confessions of a Former Glacier”), to spacey, melodic mantras (“Please Come In” and “Rebels of the Hive Mind”). In-between their self-titled debut and first release on Austin Town Hall Records, the Spots dropped the single, “Christmas Ambulance,” a wistful satire of holiday joy and deliverance that conjures the off-key ghosts of The Ronettes and The Crystals. 

Fantastic Purple Spots are Barrett Jones and Dave Junker, musical friends and collaborators since 1988, when they met in a Hausa language class at the University of Wisconsin and bonded over vowels, animal names, 60s punk and the paisley underground. Today, Barrett lives in Norwalk, Connecticut, and Dave lives in Austin, Texas, a distance, they’ve discovered, that is ideally suited for the creation of Fantastic Purple Spots music. 

Spotsylvanian Lullabies is out via ATH Records on December 6th.
