Following his move to Los Angeles from Ohio, Ted Feighan has returned with the next installment in his growing oeuvre as Exotica beatsmith, Monster Rally. Feighan’s third full-length as Monster Rally, Return to Paradise, is decidedly faster paced and more percussion-heavy than last year's Beyond the Sea, producing an aesthetic that closely resembles his live performances. The tracks melt together in a mysterious, blissful, and romantic haze invoking that signature Monster Rally thrill of being in a timeless, hypnagogic limbo. The album is pure pictorial fantasy, translating the images of a half-century of National Geographics into 17 tracks that’ll have both tiki drink connoisseurs and scotch aficionados swaying and bopping to the sweat and crackle of Feighan’s latest beatscapes. As with his past releases, Feighan is eager to have his passport stamped, reluctant to stay in one paradise for too long. His wanderlust samplings travel from Peru to Japan, Detroit to Maui, and Ghana to Barcelona expressing the pageantry and ceremony of destinations only the truly intrepid have tasted before.

The artwork of Return to Paradise is greatly inspired by the LP jackets of classic Exotica albums: Martin Denny's Quiet Village, Les Baxter's Jungle Jazz, and Arthur Lyman's Bwana to name just a few. Over fifty different varietals of flowers and plants from around the world decorate the blossoming arrangement on R2P’s cover. In addition, the packaging features printed sleeves showing a take on traditional Hawaiian patterned prints of native flowers and tropical birds. The inside of the gatefold jacket is a visual imagination of the kind of space Return to Paradise inevitably occupies.

The drumming is raw, a treat for fans of Waronker’s playing and “Precious Life” captures sonically what it’s title suggests. The record is intimate, up close…even the groovers. You’re hearing the details clearly and, hopefully, appreciating the sensation.

AM summons a dreamy sound with Waronker behind the drums and the board, and with AM doing just about everything else on synths, bass, and guitar, the two carefully craft a record that is honest and emotional, yet swings and pulses. Music made for the headphones...the big ones that is.

This release is dedicated to and written for all the people I have never met but have only read about. The innocent people who were out living their lives and one day, without warning, had them taken away from them. People who liked to laugh, dance, and love in the way that we all do, but cant anymore. All those names and faces, all those beautiful strangers...
 
So here are two songs, "Beautiful Strangers" as well as my cover of Townes Van Zandt's "No Place To Fall" that I have been closing my live show with over the past year. Any purchase of these two songs will go to support the work of Everytown For Gun Safety - an organization I have followed for quite some time. Two thirsty camels walk into a bar in Amsterdam. As they fill their humps with kegs of local beer, one camel turns to the other camel. “Ever got drunk with a camel below sea level?” The second camel turns to the first camel and winks. “Walk the camel walk, man.”

Rufus and Daniel have been making music together since they met in a bar in Amsterdam in 2010. After a four-year hiatus spent playing music separately on either side of the Atlantic, the duo reunited in Amsterdam where they engaged in an extended reunion party. They woke up two months later, thirsty and illuminated like two desiccated camel saints in a flooded desert. Camel Walk was born: a smooth-paced awakening, like a wave one could walk on, from one side of the Atlantic to the other, and back.
